Not neccessarily!

If the snow is too deep and builds up under the front undertray, thereby lifting the front of car off the surface, all that will happen is that the rear wheels will push it even further in, lifting them off the deck as well.

Result one VERY stuck car!!

But that applies to manual as well as DSG....

But the DSG can be put into manual ;)

ah! Didn't realise that, I've never investigated DSG

DSG is a manual gearbox with 2 clutches, neither operated by the driver....

It just has 2 pedals - stop pedal and a go pedal emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

it can be used in"tiptronic" mode, and we can override the gearbox within certain parameters, but we can't start off in second for example, we can't under rev the engine like you can in a manual. Though these days manuals have anti stall thingys in place now. But we can get close. My engine will pull from 1000rpm, albeit slowly in 6th at about 35ish mph as an example, but it will change down automatically if you push the loud pedal emoticon-0136-giggle.gif when in tiptronic mode.

Very hard to damage an engine and DSG through bad drivingemoticon-0136-giggle.gif as it will always try and protect its self.

But that applies to manual as well as DSG....

Agreed, but it easier to do with an auto. with a manual you invariably end up trying to slip the clutch to get that extra inch!
