Rev Counter and speedo illumination.

The one thing I agree with is a lot of people don't realise that even with DRL's on there is nothing lit at the rear, but all is explained in the Yeti handbook.

This can also be changed with VCDS. In Finland the Yeti (And Roomsters as well) are delivered with the parking lights activated with the DRLs.

My DRLs, rear and number plate lights come on with ignition

Further to my original post; went through the Blackwall Tunnel today, the lighting is good enough to not need lights on the car but the dial markings disappeared and just left the needles illuminated. Most annoying and possibly dangerous.

Read on another thread (Fabia) that this is a variable that can be set in VCDS, can any owners confirm this please.

Fred

Another thought on this is that if you can't read the markings, but feel you should be able to, then it is in fact dark enough outside to switch the headlights on! B) In doing so the markings will instantly become visible. Job done. I grant you that the Blackwall Tunnel is light enough to see where you are going BUT look in your rearview mirror. Cars without headlights on BEHIND you are nearly invisible in the darkness... Food for thought.

I agree! That's really a clever way of making semi-automatic lights. It's a good reminder that when it's so dark that you can't clearly see the markings on the dash, then it's a good time to turn on the headlights.

Haven't we had this converstion before? And didn't Fred say before that he never drove with insufficient lighting on his vehicle? Isn't it, then, about time he realised that he should change his mind? Or am I being too pedeantic yet again?

(Crikey! I have run out of % $ £ " er... question marks)

Freedie, I'm unsure about what you think I should change my mind about.

I've never had a car that does this and I find it disturbing. :(

I cannot understand why, for any reason, the illumination of the numbers should be turned OFF whilst the needles are brightly lit and the Maxidot illumination stays steady. Where's the logic in this, who decided that it was a good thing to do?

As no one else seems to be affected by this I'm beginning to wonder if my car has a problem?

Now don't get me started on Bolero volume settings.............

No....its normal. Well, the whole dial is dark and the needles light up, is that what you mean?

Just a reminder to put your lights on. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

No Fred, there probably isn't a logic to it, it is just what the car does, but I treat it as a reminder that I need my lights on.

So what's the problem with the Bolero settings? Start a new thread on that, please?

You have MORE than you've ever had in any car surely!? All old cars had nothing on with the engine running. So, as per your example, if you drive into the Blackwall Tunnel in an old car you would see exactly nothing of your dials. In your Yeti you now see the needles as a bonus. So in my book you can't complain. You are getting more than in any car you've had before and even without markings the needles roughly show you your speed now without switching the lights on.

But as said before if you can't see your markings but you see lit up needles it means only one thing: switch your lights on!

As Graham said, I regard this as the car telling you to turn your headlights on. Surely a positive thing.

+ 1 on the reminder to turn the lights on as well. I'm not up to date on the spec available in the UK, does the SE have maxidot? If so the speed can be displayed on this hence solving the OP's problem.

Yes the SE does have Maxidot, but the speed is only in KPH.

This may be a dumb question, but do all marks of Yeti have DRL's as standard? I have the SE+ and so far have only used the full headlights due to mostly driving in the dark or at dusk or on poor roads meaning headlights are a bonus!

If what I think is the case (all Yeti's have DRL's) then if I have my light selector set to the 12 O'Clock position (no lights) then the DRL's will come on?

If the light switch is on off then the DRL's will be on. I think all new cars now have to have DRL's, but not all Yeti models have fog lights.

Yes all Yetit's have DRL's, however it is possible they may have been switched off in the Maxidot menu.

DRL's are turned OFF when the sidelights are turned ON.

See; http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/205362-bolero-radio-volume-problem/page__p__2574841__hl__bolero+volume__fromsearch__1#entry2574841

Also posted in the ICE and Ask A Tech sections but no result.

I've got into the habit of making sure that I turn the radio OFF before the engine and never sit in the car listening to the radio without the engine running.

I agree wholeheartedly with Johann that the car does MANY more things than older cars but I'm a believer in having things that are useful and not because they can.

As an oldtimer I'm also a bit inhibited by a car that makes me feel inadequate as it sits there gloating "I can do more than you"! :'(

I must say however that I never imagined that when I started this thread it would generate so much activity. Four pages! I'm feeling quite liberated.

Fred

There appears to be some confusion over side lights and parking lights in this thread.

The only similarity is they both use the same bulbs.

Parking lights have nothing to do with the main light switch, they are operated using the indicator stalk.

Indicator in the up position, keys out of the ignition = right side parking lights on.

Indicator in the down position, keys out of the ignition = left side parking lights on.

The first position on the headlight switch (second position for those with auto lights) is side lights, not parking lights.

I appear to be in the minority but I find side lights quite useful, they are bright on my Octavia and I use them regularly.

Not a minority at all, we just don't sound off about it.

Sorry, but who the hell mentioned parking lights?

And actually, as far as I am concerned, "side" lights are parking lights. If you need lights on then you need HEADLIGHTS on.

I frequently don't see cars driving using their 'parking' lights. With all the other lights around they disappear.

Well actually, you did, earlier in this thread when you incorrectly claimed that side lights should be called parking lights (a claim which you have just repeated). Your incorrect statement has now been corrected. The Yeti has headlights, daylight running lights, side lights and parking lights. The fact that you choose to call side lights parking lights is simply a statement of your own ignorance.

Hang on a mo. If the side lights are the same bulbs and the same intensity as the parking lights...

Oh never mind! MX+HNY

Erm, that'll be you then Graham, in fact you were the first person to mention parking lights.

Try post number 10, then again in post 21 and just in case we all missed it again in post 36.
