What to do with the Red Devil?

Featured Replies

Well the time has come for all old farts like me to hang up my incontinence pants and retire to a life of company cardom.

The Red Devil has been sat on my drive for what seems like years doing nothing but gathering dust, pride in ownership being the only thing keeping me interested in the old girl. I just haven’t the reactions to drive it as it should be driven; quite frankly the car scares me to.

So the question is what do I do with her? Do I sell it as it is, break it........or leave it on the drive and start it now and again just to annoy the neighbours?

Your thoughts please. :)

Beautifully put together car, I would say if it scares you just put it back to standard but by the looks if it you can't do that too easily. Probably best just selling it to someone who will enjoy it like you use too.

If you are thinking about taking it back to standard/braking it then I would very much be interested in exhaust, suspension, struts and RARB if you have them.

Looks like its had a little work ;)

What power is it running? Why not keep it and use for trackdays?

expensive hobby.

I would be interested in some figures as well.

Not sure of the actual figures but this piece from youtube will give a slight hint :giggle:

Only about 300bhp (GT28 turbo) with DaveU driving it.

I usually run it a 1.35 bar which gives 402bhp and 410ft/lb (GT30) on the rollers but we have had it up tp 489bhp (undrivable).

Ahhhhh i remember following you in Blackpool... Only car that as ever caused the temp guage to increase on the car behind it emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

It would be a real shame to break it.

Check out the export cost Rob B)

IIRC, apart from some running gear there is little else to the car.

Des, I know what I would do and know that you'll end up regretting selling / breaking as the amount of money put in will never be recouped and then 6 months later you will regret it knowing that to build another truely unique car will cost a fortune.

About 3000 quid with certification at this end. :D

There is a sodding great bar welded across the suspension rear turrets. The top 2 harness straps are anchored here, the other 2 are on the original seat belt points.

sell this beast ? never... keep it.

and if you end up selling it i'd be traveling 1.5k miles to get it

You'd regret selling it, some tit would end up buying it and piling it into a wall on a track day. I'd keep it for a bit of fun on weekends, maybe take it to next years Briskoda 10th anniversary meet.

Then again if you sold it imagine all the carp gear you could buy ;-)

KEEP!

KEEP!

KEEP!

as said someone will only bugger it up. I would love it for a toy but cant afford it plus I certainly wouldnt drive her as it should be! Wouldnt need to as I would know thast its would beat most cars so wouldnt need to prove it. Did you do the TT front end like Bowders1 and a few others have done?

Also Des what spacers are you using? Just I have a wobble on mine at same speeds on both sets of my spiders. I am thinking its the spacers that are supposed to be hubcentric 5mm ones? (5mm on both front and rear)

Lo mate

R32 front end and few other tweeks. ;)

Running 5mm spacers on front only. Try to shed some weight off the front suspension if you run Brembos, they are quite heavy.

Having had this discussion over and over again whilst fishing with Des, he knows my feelings, on what is a very expensive folly, and is at the moment, just an item that sits on the drive to annoy a certain neighbour.

Yes, it is a cracking car and having done quite a few miles in it, it is awesome when driven in anger, not that he ever would on a public highway :giggle:

A shame to break or sell, well yes in some ways, but not if its not going to get used, but as these are the two options if it's not being used, then perhaps those on here who want such a car, should make realistic offers to reflect what has gone into the building of it, or will it be the usual excuses, "I wish I had seen this before I bought my car" etc, etc, etc.

Those who knew my modded Mk1 Octy vRS told me I was mad to sell it and I would miss it, but times change and we all move on, hence the number of the older members of Briskoda who pioneered the modding of the first Mk1 Octy vRS by trial and sometimes expensive error, but longer visit this site.

This would have been an ideal track car for Briskoda as mentioned in an earlier thread, but seemed to be looked on as too fast, this I find a bit strange, and a slower cheaper car was fancied, strange as cheaper slower cars usually end up in banger racing, not track days.

So why not make Des an offer he cannot refuse???????

That engine bay is certainly impressive to look at. I've not been around this forum for long so don't know the history, but looks like a good VRS!

However I would say its going to be worth more in bits...unfortunately, hell, i'd probably buy some. :giggle:

Whatever you decide to do Des I wish you all the best...

how about 2 mars bars and a packet of crisps? :D let the bidding begin :D

I know its another of the usual excuses Beretta but "If I had the money I would not have to think very hard about buying it" :p

on a more serious note though what sort of price would you be thinking of Des, so that people who have the required funds can give it some thought? I know whoever buys it will be getting a very well put together car.

Remember what happened to yours after you sold it though Gerry, you must have been at least a bit gutted/annoyed?

Having it as a Briskoda track car would be a lot of fun but it would probably be better tuned down a bit, I can't imagine 400bhp through the front wheels would be driveable on most tracks
