Which Tyres?

Featured Replies

I need a new set of 4 tyres but I don't know what to go for I've got my eye on the barum bravuris 2's but I haven't heard of them before. Anyone run them?

Now in the past I've had pirelli pzero nero's which fantastic then I had Goodyear eagle f1's which were awful and I've got Toyo t1r's which IMO are almost as good as the pirellis.

Any recommendations? Want to try keep it around the £300 area not the £510 I was quoted for some Michelins today.

Thanks in advance.

I currently have pirrelli Pzero Neros and they're great! ;-)

The best tyre by far is the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 and these are around £130 each.

How much is your life worth to you?

I've got the Bravuris 2's on the vrs too, good in the wet and excellent in the dry.

Been on for 12000 miles and still got plenty of life in them, would happily buy another set

Drive like an idiot and any tyre will let go.

Indeed.

But when your just driving normally on a wet (or dry!!) motorway and there is a 10m difference between bumping your car and smashing it to pieces giving you horrific injuries will you then be wishing youd spent the extra on better tyres???

Never skimp on tyres, never never never!!!!

Bravarius 2 are a greayt tyre, mine had them on when I bought it and I would buy then again.

Back to driving as the road conditions allow.

Can't find any evidence of a michelin stopping 10m shorter than the Bravuris 2

surely the toyo t1r's would come in around the £300 mark and if you have had them before use them again.

for once i can't actually comment on the tyre in question as i have never used them before.

but if it ain't broke don't fix it.

all pretty cheap to me, a GOOD tyre fitter should charge you £12 per tyre(cash in hand) to fit.

if running on standard wheels those 205/45/16 come in at £302 including delivery and you know you like them already

Back to driving as the road conditions allow.

If you think that a budget random brand tyre will be anything like a PS3 then I'm not going to waste my time explaining it.

Its night and day.

Indeed I live im Leeds and my car has perfectly standard brakes. I also have some pretty neat timing equiptment that can measure G circles and braking forces.

Here is an invite to anybody, using any brakes on a fabia to come and we will do some back to back tests to demonstrate what I'm saying. Turn up with Porsche brakes, it matters not, my car on PS3s will stop shorter.

I cant stress enough how much people should not cheap out on something that could easily one day save their, or somebody elses life.

Duplicate post.

No need to explain owt was fitting tyres for years.

That said everyone is quick enough to jump on the bandwagon and slate budget tyres without having any facts nor experience of the actual product.

I have plenty of experiance with different tyres and will stand by anything I say.

I'm very passionate about people getting the best tyres they can for safety and arn't replying to these posts as an argument, its to hopefully help somebody out. Thats why I will openly compare to any tyre for the benefit of others, I will even just let you go in my car to see why you should buy them. Can't say fairer than that and maybe one day that will stop somebody running my wife or son over at a crossing because they couldnt stop in time.

Hero milanzas are a good cheap tyre gd tread pattern good in the wet

I've always had Toyo's fitted to my Fabia in 16" and 17" fitments and been extremely happy, however this time around I am trying out some Conti Sport Contact 3's in 215/40/17 size. Managed to get them for a pretty good price, so thought I would see what they are like on the fabia.

Not heard of anyone on here with them fitted to a Fabia yet. In this rubbish weather we are having at the moment, they seem very good in the wet (and not even got rid of all the mold release compound yet....) lets see how long they last :giggle:

Im running Michelin myself and know where you are coming from. But i will stick to you drive to the road conditions to suit what the car is capable off. Not everyone CAN afford £130 per tyre hence the market for budget tyre's. The budget tyres have to pass all safety aspects so this must be doing something right.

I just get tired of the old "Don't buy them as they are ditch finder" comment with no actual facts and figure to work from.

Wow opened a can of worms here. The barum's are getting rave reviews online suppost to good in all weather and quiet too!

The tyres are to be fitted to spiders so 205/40/17

Toyo t1r's for me, can't rate them enough but haven't got a massive amount to compare them too. Came in at around the 300 mark from a local independent 6 weeks ago.

Agreed! Ive used budget tyres and have performed better than ive expected, but i think it boils down to driving ability and knowing limits. Sadly a lot of people dont have racing experience and generally dont know how control a car properly. yanking the steering wheel, foot to the floor, expecting the car to fly round a corner wont happen with the best of tyres.

I will buy maxxis tyres for mines as ive used them for years in motocross so thats good enough for me. I told my dad that everyone on here raves about uniroyals and he laughed because years ago they were the 'ditch finder' budget tyre, funny how things turn out....

Barum I think is Czech Republic company making tyres and u ll find them on brand new Skodas, Barum company was bought/own by Continental,

about driving and saving life personally think its more to driver and the skills, then make of tyres

all tyres manufacturers claim their tyres are best :)

From my expierience I will say:

"What ever tyres you shop for - DONT BUY DIRECTIONAL" unless for track days or similar. Ive seen so many cars with alignment issues and so many drivers were f£$ked because they couldnt help with cross rotation to even them out. So many end-up spending on new set of tyres or cursing sawtoothing you cant fix. Check you budget and decide between BUDGET, MID-RANGE or PREMIUM tyres. Then look for non-directional tyres if your car is daily driver and then choose something you like and with good reviews.

There is sooooo many factors to consider when you choose tyres. Dont go by look and price. Otherwise you will end-up spending that money twice in longer run.

Keep in mind that performance tyres wont last as long as touring tyres. I will agree with Fred that there is huge difference between budget and premium tyres. Its enough if you search youtube for comparism on two types and difference is like night and day and you dont know it till you find yourself in a situation where your driving skills and tyres are really tasted.

I've got the the barums. Was impresses with the older version so got the newer ones. They certainly punch above there price range. I actually find them better than then the GSD'3 I had before.

Also recommended by merc.

Think I'll have a go with the barum's. Basically a cheaper continental, it's a bit like skoda is a cheaper VW/Audi you get all the same things but for less.

They are also highly recommended and I havent seen a bad word against them so far.

Great tyres - I went back to them.
