Common interior trim rattles

Featured Replies

Well having fixed my very annoying rattle this morning I thought it would wise to start a thread to help others who have annoying little rattles. I know there are some threads dotted around with solutions but why not centralise them for easy reference?

Rear seats

I found that my rear seats were rattling when going over bumps producing a rubbery knocking noise, very similar to a bad/worn suspension bush. Turns out that the resolution is simple: release the seat catch, lean the seat forward, locate the rubber stop, loosen a bit, replace seat. This fixed mine and took about 20 seconds.

Rear seat belt clips

If you have a high pitched, annoying little rattle coming from the rear of the car, check your near side seat belt clips. The two of them like to rub together in the middle which makes an annoying rattle. Just pull them apart and problem solved.

Anyone else have any solutions that could be contributed?

As I posted earlier, tailgate rattle/squeak, spray rubber buffers/pads with rubber lubricant (no rude comments please).

I do have to repeat this occasionally.

Take the entire interior of the Fabia/Roomster apart, and then rebuild it properly using sound deadening, felt washers and not allowing hard plastics to rub together. Skoda really need to get a grip on this, many makes dont rattle like these cars including my wifes 3 year old Pug 107.

I have to do the same with my top glovebox.

Top glove box is useless for storage untill its got something soft to line it or its empty.

Top glovebox

Today I finally fixed my top glovebox's "flapping/rattling". I used some common air/sound isolation tape used in windows and doors and applied it to the edges where the glovebox comes in contact with the dashboard support. I also applied it around the fixation holes and on top of the 3 plastic corners/stiffeners that are on top. I think the last two ones where the ones that finally made the difference but anyway I left all tape around just in case. In the photo, I have red-circled the fixation holes position in order to give a beeter idea.

Photo!

I also believe photos would be really helpful in this thread as the terminology used by english people is sometimes not well understood by foreigners due to simplification of technical terms. Cheers...

I bought a roll of that non-slip rubber stuff like this

I had my vRS estate 6 months next week and i`ve had no interior trim rattles at all in my car but i did fit some non-slip rubber mats in the two gloveboxs and by the handbrake

I have a rattle on the bottom right hand side of the instrument binnacle, it will be going into the garage on Wednesday for the 2nd attempt to stop it! The cause I think is the instruments not been bolted/clipped into place tightly enough and the outer dash flexing on top of it.

The drivers headrest when pulled out to the second click has a vibration noise coming from it..If I lean my head against it whilst driving it stops... I have dropped it to the 1st click and it seems to of stopped mind!

I also have a slight high frequency rattle coming from the arm rest area... not located it exactly yet!) I get a fair bit of rattling from all 4 doors, this I think will only stop if they pulled apart and damping material stock onto them. I think my coilover suspension has accentuated a lot of this 'loose' trim noise and I look forward to seeing how the taller profile 15" winter tyres damp everything .

I would leave it mate, the garage 'fixed' mine and made it worse and also damaged the soft part of the instrument surround. Turn up the stereo at least that is better quality !
