New VRS mpg

Featured Replies

Just picked up a brand new Octavia VRS CR TDI from Leeds today, stuck at 70 on 95 mile journey home giving the engine a chance to settle in, to my surprise it averaged 52 mpg over journey and I wasn't accelerating slowly, is this typical MPG from this engine?

Dan

That is certainly more than possible on a longish run. I normally average around 43-46mpg on my 10 mile run to work with the best I have achieved on a run being 57mpg. Some on here have quoted over 60mpg.

Good to hear :-), not bad for a car with a bit of grunt, I've just come from a pre FL TFSI so used to 35mpg on a long run, on the motorway it doesn't feel hugely slower either.

i got 54.7 on a 257 mile run, and 54.2 on the way back, sat at 75 all the way pretty much

That sounds ok but it may not last.

When you get used to it you will push it a bit more.

sounds spot on to what I got on 300 mile drive back home after collecting from sealers making my car feel old now :( 61 platers ... mines only an 11 :wonder:

Yep sounds about right - my record on a trip was just under 64MPG on a trip of mostly 50mph managed motorway! Can quite often get 57ish on my journey to and from work. Town driving is what kills the MPG.

37 mpg

If people are concerned about fuel consumption, why by a Skoda vRS.

Toyota are doing good deals on their milk floats these days!

Because it's quick enough to overtake stuff, reasonably fun to drive, and still gets decent mpg. I've averaged 46mpg in the 7000 miles I've had mine, which isn't far off what I used to get from my 306 HDI, while being a far nicer place to be.

+1 what he says.

Why can't I have a fast car that looks good and still get good mpg?

Not really that fast and I never got good mpg on mine either but it's all down to what you want out the car, it just didn't suit me. I drove mine hard because it wasn't that fast and in doing so got rubbish mpg, circa 37.

show me a car that does 50+ mpg and does 0-60 in 7sec. Apart from lols glorious 1.8tsi with its go faster 'fin', you won't be able to.

Mine never did 0-60 in 7 seconds and it was remapped and I saw 50mpg once and it was the most boring drive ever as I didn't use any of the power. Each to their own though, I just thought it struggled in both the performance and economy stakes.

Don't get me wrong it's a good car but wasn't for me.

must have been a bad one then. I've got dsg but no remap and done a timed 1/4 mile in 6.98 0-60

I'd be challenging the accuracy of the timing gear to be honest but it's all relative anyway. If the CR does it quicker than official figure it stands to reason they all will (TSI, TFSI, PD vRS).

As for mine being a bad one, on the dyno it put out slightly more than the 170ps and about 205 after remap. It was never slow, and in gear at motorway speeds it was tfsi quick but nowhere near as quick, IMO, through the gears which for me is the fun bit.

Was at gti international this year and many others off here were on it so they must all be wrong too then. Nick P I know was one running down there.

Just got home after 290 mile trip mostly motorways cruising at 70 on the Tom Tom with occasional fun. According to the computer it did 40.9MPG using V Power unleaded. I am sure the CR would do 50+ on the same journey but my mileage doesn't justify a diesel. For reasons of cost and performance I will stick with petrol until I have to commute further.

You're missing the point I made though, whether it was accurate or not it's still not what I would call fast but then performance is subjective and depends what you're comparing against. I'm comparing against my first vrs which was a tfsi and my third vrs which is a tsi (neither of which I would class as fast as standard). When I first got my cr I was disappointed by the performance but thought that if it delivered reasonable mpg then it made up for it which it didn't so I was disappointed on both counts. The latter being the relevant point for this thread before I get accused of going off topic. This is just my opinion though.

No, your missing the point, I stated that you don't get better performance from a diesel for the money or mpg.

As I said find another car for £18k which does 0-60 in less than 7 seconds with easily achievable 50+mpg.

You're comparing the official 0-60 figures of other cars, which are usually understated, to yours measured on a quarter mile. You'll probably find a Mazda 6 2.2d 180 will do a similar 0-60 if measured and will return circa 50 mpg if driven accordingly. You never previously mentioned the 18k price ceiling before and I don't see the relevance here. Agree that you won't get better bang for your buck but the blend of performance and economy balance offered by the cr isn't unique.

I've done two 425 trips in my VRS diesel and averaged 56mpg keeping at an indicated 70mph on the tom tom. I bought it new in september and have done 2800 miles and I'm averaging 54mpg. Brilliant car great value for money.
