Sort the smoke out ?

sent from my dribble bus using ketchup !

Sick of cleaning my car every 30 minutes due to the smoke so I'm gunna go to my local exhaust place and get them to modify my back 'box' (straight through pipe). I'm gunna keep the tip but have an off-cut that points directly to the floor. So basically, the end of my exhaust will be fake and do nothing. I'm considering having the rear bumper 'smoothed' so there's no exhaust exit hole and literally just have a 45-90 degree bend on the end of the pipe directing it to the floor. Thoughts?

Won't it look like it's on fire if smoke is coming out the bottom of the car but not the zorst? I like the idea of a downturned exhaust tip. Though ideally, I s'pose the entire pipe should rotate downwards so the end is an open pipe, pointing 30-45 degrees downwards. I'm sure there's some room to make it fit where the factory BB sits.

Sort the smoke out ?

+1 much better to sort the issue out

Most of the lower spec (older models) have a down turned hidden tailpipe as std anyway.

Hopefully your rear tail-gate is well sealed, as not to draw exhaust fumes and smoke back into the boot-area then cabin?emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

Do yourself a favour and look into other mappers.

I've lost count the number of times I've said this. A tuned diesel does not need to smoke. End of.

Try having a yellow one with a dung hybrid map!!

Had to clean it every day

Got the map sorted and it was every other day lol

+1 - Not excessive smoke anyway

Side exit??

Been there, done that:

Ross' car doesn't smoke much at all but he still has a filthy boot after a hard drive.

Every Fabia will have a filthy boot after a hard drive, especially at the minute as roads are wet and covered in muck etc.

It's all down to the shape of the back of the car and how the air flows over it meaning all the muck gets sucked up and stuck to the back.

Yeah, mine still gets mucky. But you can tell it's generic road grime as it's all over the back, not biased towards the exhaust side in that pic. And it comes off A LOT easier!

Your fabia is the same shape as everyone else's don't see why it should be any diff lol

Because it's chucking out great plumes of unburnt diesel...

True, however, I'm sure the last 10-15% of spool, response and power requires the smoke. Once you know how your car drives I think backing the fueling off to regain "clean" would feel slow.

Im talking about the vortex

Yeah but if there weren't plumes of smoke, it wouldn't get so dirty so quickly.

Redirecting the exhaust seems like a silly option if you ask me, actually solving the cause of the smoke would be the best option.

I'd disagree. My Shark map makes the same peak power as the Awesome one, more power at the redline, but the smoke up in the last 10% of the rev band is virtually non-existent. There's still some, but there's not plumes like there was before.

True, but if he didn't have a 'vortex' lol then it wouldn't matter how smokey it was lol

The only way to really get rid of the vortex is to redesign the rear end of the car. No matter what exhaust you have, it'll still get covered in crap from the road.

Side exiting exhaust? ;)

No exhaust lol

Cant see that working, fumes will still come out from under the car and the air should pull the fumes up, having the same effect I imagine?

you need a bozozoko style exhaust ;) [read Chimney]

But seriously your car seems that smokey that even it was coming out the bottom of the exhaust and leaving the tip as a fake [as per an ST TDCI Mondeo] it'll still cover the back in soot.

Or you couldhave one of these coming out of the bonnet or wing

Bit of a crude way of showing how excessive your smoke is Luke, but just compare these two videos of yours and mine....

Clean

Seriously there really is no need in all that smoke. Even after I go for a hard drive, there is certainly no sign of soot on the bootlid. I'm certainly not craving any more power out of mine for now either.
