My beef is that VAG:-

a) Have more marques than they know what to do with.

Hmm I was wondering about this since Dutch posted it back in the lounge a few weeks back. I feel the brands are positionged into 2 groups. Sports and Refined. (I used the word refined to describe the kind of comfortable, 'normal' if you will saloon cars rather than firm sports suspension types)

Sports

Lamborgini

Audi

Seat

Refined

Bentely

VW

Skoda

Now it works in that order of expense (top to bottom BTW :p) and doesn't work exactly in all situations but really was the best I could think of to describe all the brands. I think some of the brands may need to be lobbed out but which ones?

VW will never be an upmarket car. I am old enough to remember when an Audi was a Mk 1 Polo with a different badge and a Passat with a boot instead of a hatch , so I dont think I can take them seriously either. BTW if it aint aircooled it aint a proper VW.

VAG is split in to 2.

The

AUDI division

Lamborghini

Audi

Seat

The VW division Bughatti

bently

VW

Skoda

So you were pritty much correct apart from the emission of bughatti.

But it is actually divided up that way.

the audi 50 was before the mk1 polo

sothe polo is a an audi with a vw badge

Is it not the other way about a hatch instead of a boot? Or am I just confused?

Hmm surely Bughatti is more toward the Lamborghini side? Thats what I mean about brands being applied in more than 1 division

Just accept it skoda are at the bottom of VAG's pack and VAG are comfterble with that.

Although what do you mean by bottom of the pack?

I have an Octavia - it's larger than a Golf, it's as well built as the

Golf, it cost a lot less! The Superb - bigger than a Passat, as

well built as a Passat, costs a lot less...

Then, not forgetting the A3 and A4 are based on the same

platform...I wouldn't say Skoda are at the bottom of the pack!

I also notice the new Seat Toledo with the 1.8T 180bhp engine

has a list price pretty much equal to that of the vRS.

Furthermore, there is a Czech Republic seat on VAG's supervisory

board until 2007, and any major production changes with Skoda

will have Czech government involvement. So it's not like VAG

have total control over Skoda Auto despite owning them!

Rob.

Fact is VW cant steal an engine that skoda designed. seen as that the way the whole company worked. [/b]

so what about the polo 1.05 the skoda estelle 105 engine in disguise !

I understand what you're saying, and agree that, if VAG (or some other big company) hadn't invested in Skoda they would have sunk without trace.

so why are they the 3rd longest running motor manufacturer in the world then ?

thats beside the point. skoda could not have continued the way they were. and if they had it woudnt be a stable future. probably along the lines of reliant. going bust then being bought back again.

this is wot im saying it aint stollen. they just put another badge on it. its hardly theft.

And bughati are definatly in the VW divison. I go to VW college and they brain wash you with these facts.

Dont get me wrong i aitn knocking skoda. just trying to informn u of where they lie within VAG as some ppl seem to think they could be marketed as a flag ship brand. which i really dont think could happen.

Yeah, but just because someone tells you something in marketing doesn't make it true! :)

Rob.

and wot does that mean?

i dont need any one to tell me that skoda coudnt be a flagship brand.

i like skodas personally i would like a VRS. but being young it aint gonna happen. Yet :):D

Indeed. Because "flagship brand" is a subjective thing.

Danny, you are doing just fine! Briskoda is becoming an increasingly international forum and welcomes all who have an interest in the Skoda marque, regardless of how well they can read, write or speak English. :D

yeah but the problem being i am english :)

So what sort of stuff to they teach you at VW college? Is it technical stuff, or more aimed

at sales and marketing training, or both? And marque-wide, or just VW (not that it makes

much difference these days ;) )?

Rob.

well im an aprentice tech. in my first year at college. so basically just the basics of motor vehicles. they also teah us about customer care etc. there not an awful lot of sales and product teaching.

o yeah im an audi aprentice.

Audi, eh? Bet they use proper tools instead of hammers like the Skoda ones... :D

Rob.
