Stopping IE 9 from opening links?

Featured Replies

I am getting really pi55ed off now with IE 9 opening the link I press on in a new tab and also in the tab I was in?

basically opening it twice.

All I want it to do is open like it used to in older ones.

Open the link in a new tab and keep the existing tab open on the original page?

Anyone know how I do this as Ive been thru the settings and cant find it.

just to end, I hate computers! never do what you want them too. Also takes ages for it to open too. Dont like Fire fox or crome neither, spose its just I not used to them.

rant over........................... for now :dull:

I agree with you re IE9, have started using Google Chrome instead, much more stable and does what you want it to do. IE9 is a pain in the butt!!!!!!

Ditch IE9 and use Firefox or Chrome instead. Use something that works basically :)

Try pressing F12 when on the internet, then switching browser mode to IE8 or even IE7, sounds more like compatability issue with the site, rather than the browser itself. Always worth a try! Tested this myself and putting the browser into IE8 mode, stops the links opening the same page twice

If only there was a way of stopping IE9 from running :giggle:

What about uninstalling ie9, the OS will reinstall the previous version, the only downside will be that Windows will want to upgrade IE at regular intervals, which you dont want to allow.

If you do uninstall it, go to add and remove programs and on the left, click "View installed updates" it can be uninstalled from there. Then go to windows update, search for updates, when it shows ie9, right click on it and select hide update. It won't try to install it again.

I personally like IE9. It's much better that IE8 ever was. :D

IE9 is the "best" IE yet, but that just isn't good enough, it's still a pretty awful browser.

As quite an experienced web developer, I wouldn't use anything other than Chrome. It used to be Firefox simply because of the extensions like Firebug but the Chrome Developer Toolbar does everything I need and more. The Mozilla engine is nothing in comparison to Webkit. Firefox is bulky and slow, and what's with their release cycle at the moment? Last time I used it, 4 beta was out, but now I think Firefox 10 is in the nightly?!

EDIT: After re-reading this, substitute "quite an experienced" with "very experienced". Considering some of the sh!te people put online these days that barely validates as HTML 4 and charge for their "services", I should really be more confident of my ability. Some people are still stuck in 2001, and still somehow making money from it.

I must say I have always stuck with the packaged IE, I don't do that much web browsing. With my head stuck in the vmworld and db's. It does what I need it to do. Having said that, if Chrome comes with your approval, I will certainly download and try it out. If it is wife proof, then I may grow to love a new browser :D

Cheers, I will give it a go

To actually help answer your question Billy and not just suggest another browser....

Please can you do the following steps:

1) Press Alt,x and o on your keyboard all at once

2) That should of loaded the internet options page. If not, click on tools and then internet options from the top bar.

3) Click 'Settings' from under the General 'Tabs' section.

4) Can you take a screenshot of that for me please and post that up? / Tell me what options are selected.

Once done, I should be able to help you further.
