Have You Ever Seen Your K03sport Glow?

Featured Replies

I'm just curious to get responses from people with the K03sport turbos running under the bonnet.

I've been reading some posts from a couple of forums (I'm not going to put links here), where people stated that the k03sport and K04 turbos get hot very fast because of their design.

Now, if they where boosted to 1bar or above they do even glow (according to some people's posts).

My k03sport turbo runs at 1bar and above pressure and I've never noticed that my turbo is 'glowing', even when I'm doing some hard-driving.

The first thing that came to my mind was the Jabba IHI-turbo upgrade, that would eliminate this problem but create others (300+ bhp requires some other modifications).

Have anyone of You ever noticed a 'glowing' K03sport or K04 turbo?

If you've encountered something worse then just a overheated turbo, maybe blown the turbo away, it'd be interesting to know why.

Cheers,

FD

No I haven't seen it glow. But then I have no idea what the turbo looks like. Where is it anyway?

Can't show you what it looks like, but in this cutaway (I think it's actually a VW 1.8T) it's hidden behind the cylinder head.

It is behind the cylinder head. Look for the big steel pipe with the lagging on it and the heat discolouration ;). This is the outlet from the turbo. The inlet is lower down.

Hardly ever. Only really noticed it after 35 laps of Donington full circuit!

I'm taking Jon's word that the k03sport turbo aswell as K04 are very reliable turbos and all the talk must be a pile of crap.

I'm going to blow some air through mine tomorrow, on my way to work...

Jon what's the boost on yours?

Cheers,

FD
