Ive kerbed my Black alloys :'(

Featured Replies

Tried to mount the kerb this morning to allow an ambulance past and misjudged it, kerbed my front passenger side Black gigaro alloy, absolutely gutted!

It looks a state, as parts of the black coating has been scrapped away and the nice silver edge is ruined.

Any thoughts on how to get this fixed, repaired, or will it need replacing because a repair might look crap!?!

should of let them drive around you i always do

tight town street with cars parked up one side over night, so pi**ed off!

I've seen my brother have his alloys repaired, and they looked great but these are black coated, a refurb might look dodgy, anyone had it done?

There are plenty of specialist ally wheel repairers out there. We were quoted £70 to have some minor damage to our Monte alloys repaired. Yours sounds a bit more serious but find a repairer, give them a ring and compare it to the cost of a new alloy. I'll be interested to hear your quotes.

I've been quoted 150 for a new alloy, and I could get it fitted next week when I get my winter tyres. I will get some repair quotes and keep you updated

Personally I'd get the New Alloy and get the damaged one repaired and put a tyre on it, stick it in the boot. You then have a full size spare, without the 50mph sticker on it.

If you have a 15" steel spare and tyre sell it to recoup some cash.

I've just got a quote of £92 for repair and refurb @ The Wheel Specialist (http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/)

taking it in thursday afternoon.

Price could go up on closer inspection, I hope not!

Leave it. I had my wing mirror knocked off, left it hanging(well taped up) for months, finally got a new one put on. 30 minutes later, a lorry changed lane on motorway without looking and trashed that side of my car including the wing mirror, but he had the presence of mind to keep driving and leave me on the central reservation. Could have been worse if the lorry( the one with tree trunks on the back) didn't have the barriers between the wheels. I never did get it fixed after that. It was a Citroen xantia, and I hated it. Ended up selling it to my boss and he never gave me the money for it, but that's a whole other story.

Back on topic now, if it's not too bad consider leaving it, you'll only do it again. If you must, get the new one.

damn...

ouch - quite nasty!

As said, if it get nearer the £100 mark i'd buy a new one and sell this one on here on Ebay. Good luck, next time turn the wheel first

Oh go on, try a black marker before you buy a new one. I would still be getting a new one before a near £100 touch up though. But I would colour it in with a black marker and forget about it till the summer and see if it has really bothered you.

I've used the wheel specialist and they did an awesome job on my badly scuffed silver alloys.

Wife did it a second time to a different wheel the day after they did it... Grr! I've left it now and she's scuffed all 4.

no offence but thats some misjudgement, surely going down the line of the wife kerbed my alloy woulod have been better.

or it could have been Brimma(in his ninja outfit) that did it at night. he did in my dads car the other night :-(

I was already well over before attempting the mount, didnt realise how close the kerb was!

I haven't let the g/f drive my cars since she hit the kerb at 15mph turning into my drive, chipped the alloy and burst the tyre

 :peek:

Never go up the kerb for no one!, bet you the ambulance was going to McDonalds for a big mac ;) don't bother repairing you'll only do it again change it when you sell it, or as above get a new one and stick that on the spare, £90 for a refurb ? When if you look around bet you could find a New for the same price used.

Or might just have somebody in the back who's fighting for their life. Someones son/daughter/mother/father.

It's a paint job or a £150 alloy at most.

Sorry couldn't live with myself just sat there holding up an Ambulance just in case I might scratch an alloy.

Cheers

Some things are totally inappropriate to make fun of... It's very easy to say silly things when we don't know the guy in the back. I just can't forget how it felt when I was following the ambulance with a relative inside having passed out...

Also, it shouldn't be a problem to move aside when an ambulance needs to pass through as the Fabia is tall enough anyway, just don't panic and do it correctly...

you're req'd by law to allow it to safely pass but that doesnt mean by leaving the road which is why i wouldn't mount the kerb unless it was safe to do so and i was in either slow moving or stationary traffic and i could move over without killing a pedestrian

i remember as a learner i moved well over onto the pavement and then 30 yards down the road the bugger knocked off his lights :dull: , at the end of the day, they are trained for such situations, us n00bs panicking only causes them more grief
