Coil pack recall - Not so fortunate

Featured Replies

So, I called Skoda Mitchell's in Ellesmere Port up this week. Told the bloke over the phone that there was an ongoing coil pack recall for my car (05' Octavia vRS AUQ), and that I'd like my car doing.

He asked for my reg number.. Then he says "Listen mate, I haven't heard of this coil pack recall before... lets book it in and take a look at it, but I very much doubt you'll be getting new coil packs...".

My question is, how the hell did you lot manage to get yours done??

Contact customer services and tell then about your call to Mitchell's.

Yep Skoda customer services should help. Recall applies across the whole VAG group not just Skoda.

Just quote them recall 28F7 that should do the trick

I would call your local skoda dealer and ask them if your car has been recalled.

I did that with my 2003 VRS last week, they checked my reg number on the system and said no it hadn't been recalled, when would I like it doing.

They said they are still finding cars that need doing but its hard as skoda can't easily keep up with vehicle owner cahnges.

I've only had my VRS a month.

Yep i have had my car 1 month and i called silvery Skoda cramlington for a service schedule and they pointed out my car needed the recall, didn't even pass my lips and they did it. Check the numbers on the top of the coil packs as you might have a wasted journey to the dealer if they have already been done by the previous owner

This is very strange,

A company not receiving a service notification. Follow the link below for the garages who have done members cars with no complaint and

most importantly free !!! (mine included).

NB: mine is also an 05' car

to be honest if the local dealer is that bad i'd try another, if they cannae answer the phone right imagine what their workshop (who are at the bottom of the pecking order) are like - this time quote service recall 28F7

if your coils are not genuine they won't be replaced - I have some spare if you need any, just pm me

Aye, you may be right.. I'll see what customer services say, if no joy then I'll try Warrington.

BTW they are all the original OEM J types.

I had mine replaced at MSB skoda in Darlington FOC I was informed that its not a recall but a service update. 04 plate VRS 62k

I had nothing but hassle with my local dealers. I ended up getting Skoda UK Customer Services involved.

Phoned abergele skoda up this morning and quoted 28f7 and is now booked in for them to have a look. How will i know if im still on original coil packs.

There is a a part number on the top the coils.

Went down to mine today and it booked in for 11.00 next week. They will order the parts and check them next week. Just incase I don't have the right ones does anyone have any duff model ones I could have.

There is a a part number on the top the coils.

Any1 any ideas what this number is.

Just went to Mitchell's Skoda today for them to check what’s in my car so that they can order the new coil packs in ready for my time slot on the 17th. Mine turned out to be the 'N' type (which i told them weeks before) Only problem is when the service manager gave me my keys back, i started the car and noticed the tick over was lower than normal, but only by a little bit and just put this down to the cold weather, then I joined the motorway (which is meters away from the dealership) to go back home. As soon as I joined the on-ramp and started to power up the hill, then the car was running rough as hell, felt like running on 3 cylinders and the engine management light was flashing all the way home!!

Limped home at 40mph which luckily is 5 miles away, but soon as I pulled up outside my house this stench of burning plastic and smoke was pouring out of the bonnet. Popped the bonnet, took the engine cover off and saw that 1 coil pack wasn't pushed down all the way and another wasn't even plugged in! Took the packs out and 2 are burnt to hell on the top..

So today my car was healthier BEFORE i took the car to Skoda...

I've tried to ring back a few times and left my number but still waiting for a call back...

How hard can it be to check 4 coil packs ffs?! Took me all of 5 minutes to check them. Really annoyed!

Fancy saying just give me the new coil packs and I'll fit the basterds! - (and yes I mis-spelt it on purpose)

Rant over...

dare i say told ya :'(

once they are replaced, double check the work in front of them before you drive away - any issues get right back in and give them hell

also - find another garage

Main dealers  A call to Skoda customer services is in order.

That is shocking!

As for getting them done my car went in for a steering rack and came out with a new set of coil packs as well :p TBH I thought I had the later revision ones anyway as I had to change them after my remap but they said there was a newer version so who am I to argue :p

I know it shouldn't make a difference but I was really impressed that they would do a recall on an 8.5 year old car without any prompting at all. Thumbs up to Robinsons Skoda Norwich and Skoda UK in general.
