Well impressed, I think you should get "mod of the month" award for that. How many hours work all in?

Thanks! :)

Actual install time was probably something like 2-4 hours in total. However the problem was that I don't know of this mod being done before so I had to do alot of research, trial and error, testing etc.. As well as the effort involved finding all the parts without having to pay dealer prices. Now it's done though I'm very happy and it's well worth the effort, put a smile on my face driving home from the cinema tonight, that's for sure.

Kudos to you Eddy....looks excellent.

Just seen this post, but wow! I'll say it again Eddy - looks bloody brilliant

Hat off to you, a job well done. Would be very interested in a Furby vRS version of this. Maybe minus the satnav unit, but still...

Thanks. :)

I initially used VW Gamma HU instead of the sat nav so you could do it that way or just use an after market stereo. Also you could go for a set of MFA(half height central display) clocks instead of FIS (full height) which would save quite a bit.

I don't see why it couldn't be done to a fabia but to find someone would have to put the work in like I did with the Octavia. I could have a quick look over the switches etc to give an idea on them but worst case you can swap the LED's like I did with the centre console switches. The clocks are the biggest unknown so these would have to come out and then compared to others. There seems to be considerable differences between the wiring of the Fabia and Octavia so I suspect it would be more likely you could use Polo 9n clocks rather than those from a Golf.

If anyone wants any help with something like this let me know and I'll help wherever possible.

Eddy,

you have PM. :D

I'm already on it!

That would be the thing I'd want most, the full central display, after time in an Audi A4 :)

Would be interested to see what parts and cost would be involved...

The full height display is nice but needs to be used with an OEM VW stereo or sat nav, otherwise the top third will be blank most of the time. This also involves a bit more work as 3 wires need running from the stereo and installed into one of the plugs to the instrument cluster.

Total cost using second hand parts is around

That's a good point, hadn't thought about the wiring issue. What does the MFA display look like. Would there be any pics available anywhere?

MFA display is like the FIS but doesn't display radio/sat nav info and doesn't have a graphic display for the car doors and other warnings such as low fuel, washer fluid etc.. For these you get a light and then text in the MFA area. The MFA has a 2 line display. The bottom row always shows outside temperature the upper display shows MPG, AVG speed etc.. for the 2 trip memories.

Taking this concept to its end conclusion, I note that in Performance VW magazine, a current in-vogue conversion is to fit out a Golf with a complete Audi TT dashboard. Personally, I haven't sat in a TT so don't know if this would be a particularly attractive proposition, but apparently this is what some Golfers get up to and presumably the same could be done to an Octy?

Not to my taste but yes it can be done. The main complexity with complete dashboard swaps is getting the climate control to function correctly.

The intention of my conversion was to retain the OEM Skoda look whilst getting the extra features of the FIS and the blue illumination.

Any pics of the TT dash to be had?

Not photo's of my actual install but here's a taster of how the centre display looks:

the pics are not showing for me :(

i own a fabia classic 1.4mpi but i understand that the octavia and fabia dials are exactly the same am i right?

now what i want to do is convert my dial backlights to VW Golf blue. from what i have been hearing and reading i am also assuming that these are surface mount leds?

can you help in this regard please? i mean, do you know what type of leds i need to get, size, current, colour wavelength (such as 460nm? 400nm? 500nm?)

another thing is that i have an a/c, but i don't have any intricate displays for my a/c, just three knobs, one for temperature (the one with blue and red scale), one for fan speed and one for outlet selection. the only two digital displays i have are under the speedo and under the rev counter.

Gallery files paths have changed, the original post has now been updated.

Sorry, can't help you with the SMT LED's.

They have been for some time' date=' its always been available even in the Octavia RS and other Octavias as an option in CZ and other countries although the Skoda unit has green lighting, think its also an available in UK now.
