Winter Tyre Pressures

Featured Replies

I'm not sure this is the right place for this question, so if it is deemed not to be, then feel free to move it.

Secondly, I know you're all sick to death of hearing about snow tyres, but I've just one little question.

I have an Octavia vRS petrol. It is fitted with 205/55 R16 Avon snow tyres on 16" steel wheels. I don't know what tyre pressure to be using. My general "should be ok" guess is 2.0bar, but is there a more accurate pressure out there?

Many thanks.

Winter tyre pressure are + 0.2 bar normal, so check the fuel filler cap for 205/55R16 then add 0.2 bar

I run mine 2.4 bar all round as it seems a good compromise between loaded and not, but would adjust if doing a long trip with full load.

Avon ice tyres 16 inch wheels 2.2 rear,2.3 front or vice versa .

Thanking you both kindly. As I suspected. Champion. Now to remember how to reset the tyre pressure monitor.

press and hold the button in, had to do mine yesterday when i had the winters fitted! :D

I have Kleber Winter tyres, 205/55/16 and run them at 32 psi all round, as recommend by my tyre dealer.

Kleber Winters

My 205/55/16 are all on 2.5 bar. They need to be a little more pumped than summer tires, some say 10%.

Hi All

Got my 205x55x16 Continental WinterContact tyres on again.

I have the front at 38psi and the back at 32psi and it drives fine.

If you have less air in the front, the tyres look like they are soft but 38psi is ok.

Cheers

Dave

Probably better to give Avon a quick ring to be sure...

According to my Skoda manual winter tyres should be inlated to +0.2 bar above summer tyres, so this is exactly what I did: checked inside the fuel filler cap and added 0.2 bar.

I know most people just reply "see the filler cap" on this topic and similar topics, the problem that the OP has is that the vRS doesn't come with 16" so they only show 17" and 18" wheel pressures. I had to ask a friend who has an Octavia with 15" whose filler cap also showed 16", he told me:

Partially Loaded pressure: Front/Rear 2.2

Fully laden: Front 2.3 Rear 3.0

So then adding the +0.2 as shown in the manual, I run my winters on 2.4 for normal running.

I initially put mine up by 0.2 bar but found more understeer going into corners and then more sliding from the rears around corners. dropped them back a bit and they're far better now.

205/55/16 on a scout, 2.3 bar front, 2.8 bar rear (heavily loaded car). In summer run 225/50/17 at 2.5 front, 3.0 rear

I would get in contact with the tyre companys' Customer Services,

When I got my Nokian G2 winter tyres fitted last year, the fitter put it at 1.6bar, which is far less than the 2.2bar I have my normal tyres set to as per the guide on the fuel filler flap. Nokian stated it should be 280kpa or 2.8bar.

If in doubt, contact the tyre manufacturer!

Car weight plays a role there too, and the manufacturer will give a safe number.

205/55/16 on wifes Toyota at 2.2 bar look good, on my 1700kg Scout they look flat, so 2.5-2.8 here and 3.0 bar all around when traveling fully loaded.

0.2 bar = 2.9 psi.
