Careless "self abuser"

Featured Replies

Just got home from picking SWIMBO up from work and am rather p!ssed off.

There I am, sat in the car and a family approach and get into the car next to me (now anyone who knows me will tell you how anal I am about my car, keeping it clean and generally looking after her). So, the woman opens her car door, I'm sat there cringing cos she wasn't the smallest of women, and gets into the car, then decides to get back out to take her coat off and "ding" her door hits mine! Not a happy bunny, I jump out and look - the first car park dent - great! She says to me "what's the problem?" So I (calmly as I can) inform her she's put a nice little dent in my door, then the husband pipes up "accidents happen" and starts to get lairy. I turn to him and inform him that I am aware of this but if you have respect for other peoples property, then they shouldn't happen! With that he then starts to say the dent doesn't line up with his door and so on which I showed him and proved my point. Anyway I'm now totally p!ssed off that I now have my first dent after 8 months of having and really looking after my pride and joy, worse could've happened but even this didn't need to! Sad I know but now very upset! :-(

Rant over (for now)

Unfortunatly many people don't give a **** about their cars or other peoples.

You hear about some of the stuff that gets sent in for MOTs with major parts not working.

I've also seen someone walking a trolly into the rear bumper of their own current registration plate car at the time :wonder: :dull:

In supermarkets I alway park as far away from the entrance as possible, where it's usually quieter. Preferably an end space so you're reducing the chances of someone parking next to you by 50% - in my local Sainsbury's I actually infringe on the hatched bit next to the end space to give someone parking next to me extra room.

Doesn't always work though. The day after I got my current car I stopped off at a supermarket early on a Saturday morning - parked in a totally empty row a good distance from the entrance - came out to find someone had parked their dirty great Transit beside my car - they'd umpteen free spaces to chose from but obviously thought their van might have got lonely!

I work on this theory, much to the wifes annoyance, although she has started worrying since I polished her car and looks mint compared to all the other crap around

I too always park far away as possible and on the end space, as I was tonight, just really ****ed me off, my car gets washed and polished once every week religiously and some muppet with a filthy Laguna Estate who clearly has no respect throws their door against yours aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!

Well done for holding onto your temper!

I don't think I could of! :@

I also always make sure when I go to the supermarket I park well away from the entrance of it to try and avoid things like this happening but it never suprises me when I go back to my car and there's some :swear: parked so close it's ridiculous!

It sucks when that happens

French car - French attitude!

I felt sorry for a lad I work with who just got himself a nice used Jag in excellent nick. He came out of Curry's to find 2 big scratches on his boot. He asked in the shop if they'd seen what happened - a customer walked out with a big box containing a TV & put it on the Jag's boot while he opened his own boot opposite, to save him bending down. The staples holding the bottom box seam ripped through the paint as he dragged it off & into his boot. The shop wouldn't provide the customers details & I believe police weren't interested as it was accidental damage. Just as well for the bloke as the lad would have flattened him if he'd got hold of him.

It was fast being lost then SWIMBO finished work and came out so I had to try and stay calm! Looking back I wish I'd let myself go a bit more instead of keeping it inside, maybe then I wouldn't be so upset still now! I know they can be removed fairly quickly and easily but I shouldn't have to get them removed, they shouldn't get put there in the first place!

I'd of been taking photos, writing down details of the incident then telling them to expect a letter from your solicitor. Why should you have to pay for it when you just watched the fat cow cause the damage.

Buy a cheap child seat and put it in the back when you go shopping, you get loads of room in parent and toddler spaces.

I'm allowed to do it as i actually have a toddler.

Alas all the parent and toddler spaces by me are filled by prats in their 4x4s not wanting anyone to ding them or with 15 year old children so they clearly need the space! What I need is an old clapped out car I don't care about and then let my kids open the doors themselves

This is a problem with 'child' spaces it seems 15 yr olds are still children, the wife asked someone in an X5 if she had children with her a while back to which the 'lady' replied "no but I've got child seats in there" so the wife asked her to move out of the space to which the 'lady' replied,

"**** off you rough ****"

The irony ran deep that day

Why do people do this?!

Came out of uni when parked in a large field area to find the same thing!

That's maybe a 1/4 - 1/3 of it's length.

I've just come to the conclusion everyone is an idiot, and I don't like people! Happy outlook for a 20y/o! emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

it ne'er ceases to amaze me how when you come out of the shop there is always somebody parked next to you even if the rest is completely empty.. One thing ihave noticed though is you can spot the people who care about their cars, the closer you get to the doors the dirtier and shabbier they all get.

when I just resprayed my pickup, about 2 days after some doxy old git in a quite newish astra put a ding in the rear drivers side panel, so I went in the shop and bought a loaf of bread and scattered bits all over the roof and bonnet of his car, the seagulls round here loved it :giggle: and the crows had a good peck too.

Stopped for 30 minutes in a Sainsburys which has narrow spaces even the end ones, in a nearby market town in a tidy 523 SE. came out to find 3 of the 4 doors were dinged. Never go there now. Within 1 week of buying my VRS a nice workman parked his white van next to it and left a calling card. Moral of the story is that no matter how careful and respectful you are of your and other persons cars, there always careless or even jealous individuals who will damage your vehicle accidentally or delight in smacking a decent car.

I'm always on pins where I work. I park in a small car park behind the shop and all the shops in the row use it and we often get blocked in by some shed working in a local pub. One night while waiting to get unblocked a woman and a nice young girl came out of one of the offices wanting to get into their Merc parked next to mine. I made sure to open the door for her as to make sure there was no door ding. I even got a compliment which was a bonus. :D

I often only go to supermarkets late at night or park miles away. Still doesn't stop the idiots though. Came back after getting a few bits and saw someone had just finished parking quite close next to my car in some X reg fiesta. Miles of space either side. Knowing the risk of a ding was quite high I glared at him in a sit the f--k down sort of way. It must have worked because I got in my car and drove off before he got out :D

Must admit the more and more stories you hear about this the more I understand the sticker on the back of someones corsa I think it was.

(Dent My Car I'll Knife your tyres)

Must admit I have been tempted to get a (My car is Not Lonely Now Leave it alone) sticker. But something tells me it'll just end up with someone being a **** an d keying it anyway because its better than thier piece of ****.

Id have keyed theirs and replied "accidents happen"

I park so far away in supermarkets my wife says we should catch a bus :giggle: I was on a ferry once and a freelander pulled up alongside and kids in back bashed my door , when the parents did not say sorry and they are just kids, I said you should supervise getting them out , wanted to punch the guys lights out but the guy who sees you in, said unbelievable .we will let him out last for that, we were at top of ship and they did  Also once was outside a restaurant reversed in , car parked later just drove in had bashed rear door so was driver not kids, mine is so highly waxed no paint damage but still costs for dent removal :S

I believe police weren't interested as it was accidental damage.

I would have complained about the copper then as accidental damage or not, it's still criminal damage.

Section 1 of the Criminal Damage Act 1971 creates the offence of simple Criminal Damage.

A Person who without lawful excuse destroys or damages any property belonging to another intending to destroy or damage such property, or being reckless as to whether any such property would be destroyed or damaged, shall be guilty of an offence

Thanks - I'll clarify that with him & let him know. So, do you recommend getting the police involved for witnessed door-ding incidents if the dinger isn't interested in paying for the damage?

A good few years back my car was parked on the street outside a rented house, just opposite a school. One of the mothers reversed into my car, luckily was witnessed by my house mates who go her reg as she just drove off. I contacted the police who said they contacted her but she denied everything so it was her word against mine (apparently as the witnesses were my friends they didn't count!), they did as I remember supply her details though so that I could go to the insurers, but as it was just a cracked bit of trim I couldn't be bothered with the hastle and just repaired it with some superglue. To add insult to injury as I had reported it I had to then go to the police station to show them all my docs to show I was legal!!!

On the wifes new car we opted for the protection pack which included side strips for this exact reason. Nearly all my cars have had this done to them despite parking carefully and resonsibly. Gets very frustrating, esecially as car park spaces do seem to be getting tighter and tighter.

Oh yes... been there done that... Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Waited till he'd gone and let down all of his tyres, lifted his wipers, folded his mirrors back (not in but back so he had to click them back into place). I didn't want to cause any actual damage so there would be no come back but I'm betting my life he didn't have a pump in his car! ;)

Sometimes the threat is enough to get some money out of them.

I had an incident in my old Pug. Some old codger drove into the side wing and trashed it.

He stopped and I got his details and the stupid olf fart admitted to me that he had no insurance as it was his daughters car... he was a bit simple I think... I didn't want to get the police involved as it would then mean he wouldn't pay out and didn't then want to claim on my insurance either. So I played it cool got him to pay up then tipped off the local police that he may be driving around with no insurance and they said they would keep an eye out for him! :)
