Careless "self abuser"

Exactly, Ema.

I think in most cases if someone's noticed and made the effort letting you know, and is genuinely remorseful and apologetic then it does count for something. Like the in the OPs case, and mine, if the other driver had said "oh, crap - sorry mate!" etc then that would have ended it there. It's the complete lack of respect that means people want to enact revenge.

Just so we're clear on your stance, as you seem to be backtracking slightly.

Are you happy that if your car gets accidentally dinged in a car park, and the offender doesn't show the required amount of humility, then you are happy that the best and correct recourse of action should be criminal damage to his/her car?

Just to be clear on my part. I believe that the dinger in the OP was in the wrong. I believe that they should have apologised and offered to pay for the damage. I do NOT believe that because he didn't do those things, that you can act as judge, jury and executioner, and decide on your own punishment.

As for personal comments. I didn't make any personal comments in my "epic multiquote". The only thing I did was point out that somebody had used a stereotype.

If my use of the multiquote function offends you, then I'm sorry. I used the multiquote function for two reasons. 1) to use it as a reminder for myself what Points I wanted to address as I read through the thread, and 2) so that subsequent posters could see exactly what points I was trying to address.

Hope that clears things up for you.

I just thought some of the points you made were quite "venomous", but that's the nature of teh intarwebz, we have to impart extra meaning, tone and context into other people's words, and sometimes people get it wrong. Please excuse any "personal attacks" I may have made. I'll keep them for Yeti owners in the future ;)

Back on topic, I'm not backtracking at all, my main point is that it's the attitude of some people, and the lack of respect for other people's property, rather than the actual damage which is normally fairly superficial in incidents such as these.

Fair enough.

No venom intended. I have said nothing in any of my posts which I wouldn't say to somebody's face. I suppose the difference is that facial expressions and tone of voice etc come into play, then.

On your point about the attitude of some people. Yes It is annoying sometimes, but I'm afraid to say that I have far bigger problems in my life than a slightly annoying mark on the side of my car.

As the french might say: Vive la diference, or some such horse****. :giggle:

Edit to add smiley. Just to show I wasn't serious!!

Don't we all - sometimes it's nice to vent though :)

So... who's for cake?

note to self - parking in field at work was a bad idea today ... stuck in the mud ...

Someone dings your car door in the car park -

Shows no remorse = very angry

says sorry = still a little miffed

offers to pay for it = its a pain in the ar$e but some decent people still about.

Ok ok children. What none of you seemed to have grasped is that if you claim off the "dinger's" insurance then you will have to declare it to yours as an accident, claim or whatever else the insurance co's do to extort more money from you. If you do not you will have taken out your insurance fraudulently and as such it may be voided. It's no good thinking protected no claims will prevent your premium rising beacause that's just not the case.

Read the small print.

The fact of the matter is these people are careless, selfish and have no values moral or otherwise. Unfortunately it is one of the increasing number of Shttty things we have to deal with in this country.

light fuse

Talk about patronising!

For the most part you are probably right but I know some folk who drive old bangers who would do owt for anyone, foster children & do loads of charity work but unfortunately just don't have the mindset to appreciate why anyone would get so hung up about a small ding on a car. I'm pretty sure (actually I know) the same things happens in other countries too so no need to trot out that tired old line.

Would be a no fault claim and shouldn't affect the premium unless you have a lot of them.

Nope even a single non fault claim would put my insurance up.

That about sums it up!

I was just venting my fustration and anger at how careless people can be - yes accidents happen BUT MOST can be avoided!

What a can of worms I seem to have opened! :D
