The effect of wind

Featured Replies

No taking this into the gutter eh? ;)

The west country is getting a taste of the Scottish bawbag storm. Blowing around 40 outside with 60 gusts. Had the pleasure of driving right with the wind for 80 miles up the M5 earlier. 62mpg on the car. Way back? 51.... :D I was carrying 4 wheels & tyres on the way back too but I think the headwind did most of the work.

thats hurricane bawbag for you :D

How fast were you driving Jason?

On a calm day the best I can get (according to the OBC) driving 140 miles to work is around 57mpg, that's set at 70 on cruise. Usually drops to about 54mpg with some stiff winds!

(After working out the actual mpg, I reckon the OBC reads about 2-3mpg over)

It was pretty nasty yesterday as I was driving up from Cornwall to Somerset.

The 90 degree bend in the spray above the fence was interesting.

What a bawbag!

For comparability I pretty much stuck at an indicated 70. :) I was in no rush. The difference was the following wind meant I could use 6th gear most of the time (1800rpm or so) but on the way back it wouldn't pull it comfortably so I was in 5th the majority of the time (circa 2100 rpm)

My works motror has dropped from 8.6mpg to 7.1 in these winds these last few days!

I will lend you the Moggy Traveller for a week, it goes backwards in a strong wind
