16" steel wheel offset

Recommended Posts

hi,

Finally decided to take the plunge and fit winter tyres, could just do with knowing what offset i will need with 6.5 x 16 steel rims to keep the outer face the same as the standard 18",anyone got any ideas?

Thank you.

Have a play on www.willtheyfit.com. ET35 should give the effect you're after.

Thats great thanks, found some at £45 each.

£180 for a set of steel wheels? It might be worth considering the fully fitted wheel and tyre packages on mytyres.com.

I paid just under £400 for a set of steel wheels fitted with mid range winter rubber (for my mk1 vRS). I think that included the postage (£10 per wheel) as well so I'm sure the cost of the wheels was less than £45 a pop.

When I looked on mytyres adding the steel wheels to the tyres added £40 per corner. In the end I bought a set of Audi alloys off eBay for £150 and then sold on the tyres off them for £100 so net cost of wheels £12.50 each. Bargain.

Of course I did then spend £280 getting then refurbed in Anthracite at The Wheel Specialist but the cheapness of the wheels allowed me to do this.

Just checked their website and the wheel and tyre packages have gone through the roof in price :o

Hi All

I got a set at the beginning of the year for £120 + £10 delivery. They were 6 x 16 (ET50 I think) and they were from a VW Transporter T5. They were basically new (delivery mileage as someone had alloys fitted to a new T5).

They fit the VRS FL no problem - have 205x55x16 Continental WinterContact tyres fitted - 32psi in the rear and 38psi in the front - drives very well.

Shop about for wheels as normally when someone gets a new vehicle and the dealer puts alloys on it, the steels just go in the skip - £180 is a bit on the side of ripoff.

I also got a full set of plain black VW plastic centre caps (the half size ones that clip onto the wheel studs for around £5 a couple of weeks ago off ebay. They keep the salt etc out of the bearings and driveshaft nuts in the centre of the hubs - well worth a fiver.

For tyres, check your local Kwikfit - I got 2 full sets of the Conti's - one set for the VRS put on the loose wheels for £61 each and a set for my Astravan for £71 each as they had to take the wheels and old tyres off etc. At the time, the same tyres were around £130 each off the web so shop around.

Here is the kind of wheels

Here's a better deal

Here is the centre caps

Hope this helps

Cheers

Dave

Transporter T5 wheels are 5x120 so won't fit an Octavia. The T4 wheels are 5x112 so they'd be OK. Prices of 5x112 steel wheels on eBay are crazy right now, it would probably be cheaper to find a set of secondhand alloys from an Audi, Passat or mk5 Golf.

Thanks for all of the help and advice.

Problem for me regarding alloys is that if buy used ones i wouldnt be able to bring myself to fit kerbed / scabby wheels on the car so would spend hours refinishing them and would therefore be just as paraniod about touching a kerb as i am with the current wheels fitted!

Used alloys usually come complete with a set of knackered tyres fitted to them, looking on ebay yesterday i didnt manage to find four wheels without tyres with the offset i am after for less than £200.

Anyone know if superb steels are 112 pcd? Also if the hole in the centre is smaller. Wanted to buy some today but was told by the seller that they wont fit. Cant think of any other reasons than the above why they wouldnt fit
