Armrest worth it or not?

Featured Replies

:smirk: Im thinking of putting a Armrest in my Fabia facelift TSI 2010.As it didnt come with one .

Just wanted to ask them that already do have one in their SKODA if it is worth and usefull , when going for long drives i suppose or they find it useless and a waste of space. :wonder:

Well worth it in my vRS

I like it on long journeys and it has sufficient space to store stuff  (except coins - I too had a penny stuck in between the hinges!)

I find it a great personally, but my missus detests it.

Soon as I lower the armrest my missus finds an excuse to lean beside me. lol

Pros:

- Added comfort in any journey;

- Extra storage - especially for charging phones/ipods etc due to location of 12v socket.

- Re-sale appeal (although minor :p )

Cons:

- Accessibility of handbrake is restricted (although this isnt a problem as most people ignore the highway code and hold the footbrake - something I try to avoid at night due to brakelight dazzle);

- Obstructs reaching into the back to get something out of a shopping bag/lugguage etc.

- Even folded up I bash my elbow sometimes - although I have long arms.

- The missus huffs everytime she has to spend 2 extra seconds putting her seatbelt on.

More cons than pros but quality over quantity etc

That all said I love mine and glad I have it ;)

Better to have it than not, I use it all the time. Only con I have noticed is sometimes the passenger struggles to get the seatbelt in the clip if its all the way down.

Thumbs up for it though.

I fitted the Armster one for my car. Should have opted for it, but it is VERY good quality and perfectly matches the leather for the handbrake and gearshift surround.

I absolutely need an armrest. My arms get really tired after a while on a long run. I'm getting on ..... :(

I haven't got one in my Octavia or my Fabia, and I don't feel a need to have one

Just a personal thing :)

Got one in my Roomster (so same as Fab II) - had it for almost five years and used it about twice !

Maybe if I did more motorway trips it would get more use but it just gets in my way usually.

hi guys and thanks for your input hope the next person thinking about instaling a armrest can find all this useful to him too.

....would be interesting to put a poll up voting the ones in favour and against.... :giggle::giggle:

Have one in my Elegance... and hate it :( Bloody useless thing.

.....can i ask in which way it is useless :S :S

That would go down as a benefit then???

It gets in the way when it's down and fouls the handbrake, makes gearchanging awkward and hampers access behind the seats when it's up.

The only place it is remotely useful is on the motorway, but even there I find it uncomfortable, so it just stays folded up all the time. I wouldn't miss it, and I certainly would not add it as an option.

For a manual it would be a huge nuisance to me because I am an 'into neutral, handbrake on, clutch up, driver' in stop/start traffic.

It's a must have for the DSG Fabia driver IMHO.

Tony

True, it would be less in the way for a DSG driver, but I still wouldn't have it personally.

wow now i am 50/50.........i think its a lot of money 100 quid to spend and find out you dont like it ....maybe i need to find a demo car with one in it and take it a drive :doh:

I think it's worth having for motorway driving and the extra storage.

The armrest in the wife's Fabia Elegance remains virtually unused in the upright position. Wife finds it gets in the way of handbrake and gearstick and I tend to forget it's there when I borrow the car.

+ 1 for same reasons.

It's fine in a DSG and I use it all the time. I do find however that passengers have trouble putting seatbelts on when it's down

I had an armrest on both front seats on my Citroen and they just stayed up out of the way of the handbreak most of the time.

I think how good an arm rest is depends on your driving style/car, if like me you use the hand break a lot it will be in the way.

Scanning the thread it seems the DSG drivers like it and the manual gearbox drivers seem to not.

I will know soon enough when I get the Elegance in Jan.

Had one on my Roomster and have the Jumbo box on my Oct'y and find them comfy to use, had no problems changeing gear or using the handbrake on the Roomster, not noticable on the Oct'y as it DSG.

But when driving Lynsey's Oct'y i miss it.
