Clunk/Donk Noise While reversing and stopping

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

i got my green line 2 a couple of weeks ago and ever since getting it we have had this clunk/donk noise happening when after reversing and applying the brakes to stop i get a clunk

my first thought is that something is loose and its the slack being taken up from movement somewhere.

So the misses has just put it into skoda and they have checked it over and have replicated the noise but have not found the reason of it but they say nothing is unsafe on the car and they are contacting skoda about it.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or any solutions

It could be the lower suspension arm, the rear bush tend to go and make a clunking noise when reversing and braking, try and move the wheel back and forward with your hands and see if there is any movement or pop to your local garage and ask them to check them for you, not a hard DIY job to do.

Good luck.

Double post ......Sorry

Well the misses just picked up the car and skoda said they have the same noise other yetis they have in the showroom but not as loud and they have contacted skoda and they will be in contact soon with a answer

But from sojourner_mer post it seems what i may expected it to be and to be the slack in the pads/brakes being taken up

Very much doubt its the lower suspension snu as the car is only a few weeks old

Think i would be going to see a friendly mot man and asking him to check brakes and drive train bushes and if he says he would fail it or give advisory notice on play get skoda to sort it asap

Next to impossible to diagnose over the interwebby, but it sounds like a little free play in the brake pads in their holders. Most disc pad carriers have spring clips to keep the pads "tight" in the carrier, but able to move about a bit to counter heating and expansion and prevent jamming in-situ. to A bit of copaslip might well quieten it down, but it's nothing to worry about.

If the pads are too tight, then expect uneven pad wear/overheating discs etc, so a little slack is normal and no bad thing.

I can't comment on a Yeti's arrangement, as mine is dockside at the moment.

Would concur with other posters, most likely from the brakes. The caliper used on the front of the lower powered Yeti's are FS-III floating calipers (an old design our 03 Fabia uses the same pattern). As suggested copper slip on the upper and lower sliders (which keep the pads in position) may help.
