CAR magazine's rating of the Yeti

Featured Replies

That gruffness means it is a 3 cylinder. I HATE the sound (sorry NON sound) a 4 cylinder makes. Such a nothing sound that. But a 3? It sounds like a Porsche 911! I love it. I thrashed my 3 cylinder Audi at every opportunity to hear that gruff sound it made! I also love the sound of a five cylinder. So a 1,8 or 2,0 Tsi 4 cylinder Yeti? No thanks. Give me a 2,2 five cylinder Audi engine in the Yeti any day! But a petrol 4? Never.

Never though the sound of a Roomster was the same as a 911. Now the BMW 6cyl engines are sublime (I've had 3), even the diesels. The Roomster doesn't sound anywhere near as great as my Triumph 900 triples did. They were great sounding 3's. Not the Roomster. Just sounds rough. Need to rev the engine to get it to go....emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Back on topic, the Yeti is really a great all round car. Yes the magazines/reviewers are all biased, but the fact that so many of them like the car from different sectors of the market confirms what we all know. We are driving one of those rare beasts that not many people get to drive - I mean 5100 sold this year and 4000 last year in the UK. We are some of the privileged few. It is not often a car like the Yeti comes along. Enjoy.

I will be next week playing in mud, mud, glorious mud with some friends in their Landies and Patrols etc. Maybe I'll be able to tow them out if they get stuck....emoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Just spent far too long giving mine a bit of a wash, too long because every 3rd person that comes down the road wants to talk about the Yeti, i think I should have a card these people can present to Skoda when they follow up there interest, so I can get rewarded for my salesmanship, not that it really needs selling! B)

Not all weight is bad. Modern safety systems are good, but there is a weight penalty for them. I'd rather have a crash in the Yeti. ;)

Overall the Yeti is surprisingly light. Our 1.2 DSG is less than 200kg heavier than a Fabia estate with the same engine and gearbox. For a noticably more substantial vehicle I think that's quite good considering it includes extra equipment too. Sure you add more weight in with a 4x4 system, but that's less than 200kg too. A 4x4 Yeti is still lighter than many 2wd people carriers.

Youd be surprised how a little car like a Seven behaves in a shunt-have seen many crash at races and they survive them very well. Less weight means you usually have a smaller accident . And rollbars and race harnesses make a big difference. But if I was rear ended by a truck in a queue I would opt for the Yeti yes. But remember a huge amount of safety systems are only necessary because of the silly power many cars now have- without traction control most big BMWs and Mercs, let alone Cayennes would be near undriveable. Why anybody wants 500bhp in a lardy road car is beyond me. I took great pleasure in fact that a 250 bhp R500 was quicker than the 1000bhp Veyron in the Stig's hands... The Yeti is surprisngly light for its genre but I find the weight of even small hatches like the MINI grotesque.

I also have a car that weighs 1700kg and has 620bhp. :giggle:

It's pretty quick for a 2+2 with a decent sized boot.

Funnily enough that also beat the Veyron round the same track.

I've got 415bhp of Skoda sat on my drive :p

It comprises of a CR170 vRS Octavia running about 205, a CR1.6 Fabia Monte Carlo at 105, and a Fabia 1.9TDi Sport at 105 :D

I know the feeling, been interogated twice about the car in Tesco car park, once in the petrol station and by 3 different courier drivers that have delivered to the house(well its coming up for Christmas). One driver asked if he could take a couple of pictures. Everest fitter came on Friday to make a repair also wanted some pictures of the Yei to show his wife.

I thought my Subarus drew a fair bit of attention but nothing compared with this and I've only had it just short of 3 weeks.

Virtually no interest whilst in London.

I venture out and people start to talk to me.......hmmmmm now what does that say about London says he going off topic yet again.

Youre right- daft thing is I was thinking what the hell Nissan is that quick - says something about the mighty Skyline that I dont even think of them as Nissans....I watched a guy in a new one at the dragstrip last summer and evn in standard trim it was seriously quick.(but I'll keep my Seven thanks all the same )

Look out for the report in January's EVO (due out on the 4th I believe) for the Nissan Juke GTR. A Nissan Juke with GTR running gear - awesome! :giggle:

Going back to the weight issue; I occasionally drive my son's Fabia 1.4mpi and think, wow this is light, easy and responsive, compared to my Yeti; all it is lacking is a few BHP. ;)

I think people have seen my comments on Richard's GT-R after he took me for a spin (in the thread he posted above). I was ashen faced. And that was BEFORE the mods were done to it. For the money I can't think of a more amazing car than that Nissan for bang for buck.

:D Pitty always talking about the Yeti diesel versions!

I have choosen for the 1,8TSI version (a downgraded version of the 2,0 liter TFSI engine of the golf gti) and let it tune by THe specialist for VW related engines JD engineering.

It makes now 216 hp at a max torque of 354 Nm for a petrol engine of this size amasing (all measured on testbed) and an almost flat line of torque until 6000 rpm.

The fuel consumption is the same as earlier (when you drive like a nanny)

No problems arise for too high turbo pressur since they don't go higher then 1 bar overpressure.

its now an amazing machine!

I bet it is. FocusZetec also has a similarly improved beastie. Just want that with a DSG gearbox.....emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

...sounds very familiar... ;)

...sounds very familiar... ;)Is there any possibility to show the power, torque, boost pressure etc. via a VCDS line to the dashboard instrument or in another way?

I know about the scope option of VCDS but that is not a nice way to show it.

Kind regards

I will try hard as hell to convince MTM to produce a program for my future beast (dsg 1,8 4x4). If it is somewhat even close to my previous Seat LEon with 2,0TSi DSG then it's going to be a blast
