  • It would be nice to see the smile wiped of the smug face of a VXR owner tbh as most of the ones I know tend to think they're cars are a cut above the rest

He wont see you for dust! The VXR is 255bhp or 280bhp if it is 07 onwards if your vRS is mapped it could have up to 250bhp and 800cc and 2 less pots to carry lol id say go for it :-)

I've just come from a mapped 2.8T signum ( same engine as the vxr) and even in standard form they are a beast with 0-60 of about 6.5 seconds and the 300 + ft lb torque you may struggle, you may get off the line quicker but they soon catch you up as 3rd gear is mental. I had a little tussle with a Porsche boxter before I sold mine and it was neck and neck till I hit third and the long legs of the v6 lump carried me in front. But its worth a shot just in case you can do it.

A friend of mine has a standard vxr & its very fast! if anything it has too much power for the chassis.Im not a fan of modern vauxhalls(mine were all astra gte16v,cavalier sri/gsi) but it is a nice car(for a vectra)lol. blooming expensive to tax though,he is paying around £400 tax!

I'd say the Vectra :)

Stage 1 tfsi would not have as much as 250bhp, nearer 230bhp so I think it would struggle against the vectra vxr but there wouldn't be much in it based on close power to weight ratio. Also the in gear times for the vxr aren't as quick as you would expect if I remember rightly.

"in gear" times don't matter - the OP specifically said a quarter mile drag race

Mind you, Vectras can only go in a straight line, even with full lock on.

I've had mine RR'd at 260 and 263hp on two different rollers so its possible, i'll give it a bash god loves a trier lol.

Well this was my other thinking Harry... come a bend and he's in zee ditch, hoping a few added bits over the xmas period will help on the handling front with me.

What you could do is lend me some bits for a week Harry lmao.

I have a bluefin for my vRS and on the superchips website there is a graph of before and after and the after is 238bhp they must guess the other 12 comes from the K&N panel filter. My MK1 Standard vRS was quicker off the mark than a standard VXR (255)

I wouldn't take too much of what Clarkson said on the Top Gear road test about the handling of the VXR as they had the TC fuse pulled. The vxr can handle pretty well as they are fitted with the IDS or IDS plus system for the 280 bhp which tightens up all the suspension etc and would probably surprise a few of you.

Would defo be interested to see this drag race though, but my mind is still saying standard VXR i'm afraid.

Na its over for GM lol

You see a similar thing with lots of vRS owners too...

Controversial..!

Very little in it - more down to how you can control traction and reactions at such similar power to weights.

Controversial..!

Maybe, but still correct

Vectra VXR are seriously underrated cars ! Especially in 280Bhp guise, remapped or stage 2+ they are mental.

Clarkson gave them a bad reputation but as said above they had disabled the TC (see lots of wheel spinning etc) which also switched off the IDS suspension, unfair? I think so, everyone knows he is a Ford man.

I reckon the Vec will be off, the traction in the Vrs is terrible and the VXR once rolling is very quick.

I remember reading that test - VXR comes out pretty well i think. As others have said it will be too close to call.

off topic i know, but i love this cornering shot:

Been out for a drive in my mates vectra vxr tonight, holly **** its faster than i thought when i was a passenger last time i was in it,i thought my octy went well but i reckon sadly the vectra is going to be quicker.

Cars always feel quicker from the passenger seat.

My mate had a Signum with the 2.8 V6 Turbo from the VXR and it was quick, but my current vRS would be quicker. Obviously if mine was standard it wouldn't though!

The VXR is the quicker car, well in 280bhp form anyway, I've had 2 vectra C variants both diesels and 2 be honest the understeer was bad, unlike Clarkson, it could be easily controlled by simply backing off the throttle a bit, Clarkson seemed to think holding the throttle down would prove something

Back to the original question, Yep I think the standard 280bhp vxr would beat the remapped VRS Tfsi on the 1/4 mile straight.

I was in my mates 280bhp vectra before he remapped it and it was very quick and acceleration was super smooth, I was then in it after he had it remapped by 888 and it was scary quick for a big 5 door rep mobile :giggle:

They're about 175 - 180bhp per ton and a remapped TFSI would be circa 170bhp per ton [based on 240bhp which is a bit ambitious I think].

Remapped TSi is a different matter though..... circa 190bhp per ton if I recall :)

Of course in a drag race there's other factors to consider....

That's because in standard form the Siggy are only 230 or 250 bhp mine was mapped to 280 and was like the proverbial off the shovel.

Were are you gettin your figures? Revo :giggle:

4 posts i have seen now that you seem to think a TFSI will only achieve 230-240 MAX sadly its not true, each car is not 200hp standard it varies as you will probably know and running Tesco 99 (as personally they should be running on super anyway) it will not always be bang on 200.
