I think babs seems a little anti-skoda based on past posts. Do you drive a skoda babs?

  • It would be nice to see the smile wiped of the smug face of a VXR owner tbh as most of the ones I know tend to think they're cars are a cut above the rest

I rest my case

I'm bias but vauxhall's just don't do it for me, as the pic above the skoda interior does look better.

Have to say I know I'm bias towards Skoda, they will always win against vauxhall and ford.....but then you ask a ford/vauxhall man and their top choice would be their marque.

As for which is quicker, vauxhall's have always been quick and to be fair they handle ok no worse than a Skoda, ride quality on the other hand is a different story :p

Babs likes Skoda's he just doesn't have the rosetinted specs!

As Dave said, I'm on my 3rd Skoda, but unlike 99% of people on here, I don't have Skoda blinkers.

Last line = my point exactly! I appreciate Skodas for what they are.

And yes, most Vauxhalls are far too hard, SWMBO's Corsa SXi brakes my spine! :giggle:

But ANYway... enough of my anti-bias... when will we see some drag results?!

Yes this thead deserves an answer!

It's just odd not to have someone saying their skoda is better than a lot of other cars. Thanks for clearing that up.

You'll find blinkers on most owners forums, and it annoys the urine out of me! :giggle:

I actually prefer the look of the Vectra dash in these photos, looks far more solid and useable.

Well i drive a vectra with the lesser interior (no leather recaros, no satnav) day in day out and i want to top myself, its so bad i need aint depresants when i get out. Give me the skoda!

Thats coming from a vectra owner.

As a work horse the vectras good but it is soulless.

Well I'm with Babs on this tbh, I had a Vectra before my Vrs and they are good cars.

Put it thus way I traded in a Mazda 6 Sport with full leather, BOSE sound system etc for a 3.0 V6 Vectra that I had remapped to 230bhp.

The V6 diesel was one of the smoothest best sounding diesels I have ever had, and it was the only car I kept outside of warranty. Car sites have blinkers and we too on here are truly bad for it, I never stick to the same car twice as I always fancy a change.

If you want another answer go to www.vectra-c.com and ask about VXR against Vrs ? Wanna bet the replies ?

And another thing on the 'interior' the Vx is solid as good as the Octavia, The Octavia interior in no way can be described as 'exciting' more functional if anything.

My mate had a Vectra and whilst it was quite nice when it was new the interior was poor quality and fell to bits and the auto gearbox packed up just out of warranty.

I had an Astra hire car less than a year ago and this reinforced my opinion that Vauxhalls are complete crap. The interior dashboard was an overly complicated design with too many buttons. The car had done about 1000 miles and when I was coming home through the Tyne Tunnel and began the upward climb the clutch started slipping to the extend I could barely get enough power down to get me up.

QFT

Some of us on here are merely trying to bring balance to the Farce

I work for vauxhall and got to say they are ****!!!!! So many warranty clams its untrue. Had tested an astray against rivals which inc KIA which are better built and finished off. Most of us at work drive some sort of VAG instead of a free vauxhall which tells u something.

Having owned a Vectra for 3 years and an Octavia for nearly a year, I would say that the Octavia is better built inside, but not by as much as you'd think. The Octavia seems to be more solid, but then again, it's much simpler and has less parts to squeak and rattle. The plastics and surfaces are very similar.

In terms of style, well, that'll be down to personal opinion. For me, the Octavia is more interesting inside, but it's not a fantastically stylish place in itself. I guess this is down to the fact that VW want to differentiate their products. Can't have a Skoda with a better interior than an Audi or a Golf!

Vectras aren't the most exciting vehicles, it's true, but they do what they were designed to do really well - much miles on the motorway endlessly. Not so hot on the twisties, mind you!

Having had 2 Vectra SRI's and a vRS mk1 and currently a FL vRS mk2 I reckon I can spot a few discerning differences.

Vauxhalls make pretty good engines, both diesel and petrol.

Interiors on the vectras were dire, later Astras and Insignias are better but not screwed together as well as VAG.

Vectras on the whole only like going in straight lines! Chronic understeer, which snaps to massive oversteer if REALLY pushed, nothing inbetween.

Vectras were/are really cheap to buy & run.

Skoda for the build quality and technical specification are very good value (not cheap).

Skoda drive better and are generally a nicer place to be.

Don't get me wrong I quite liked vectras, but mainly because they were cheap (in 2007 a 6 month old sri 150 (diesel) with sat nav and all the trimmings was £12995 from the main dealer), and the engines were superb. However I would choose my Octy everytime.

I've owned a vauxhall astra and vectra and skoda octavia interior is far nicer.. soft touch and built better. a lot classier.

+1 we use Vauxhalls amongst other makes at work and the interior is terrible in comparison. Hard scratchy plastics whose finish rubs off rapidly, poorly positioned switchgear and a terrible trip computer. Don't even get me talking about torque steer!
