Strange Findings...

Featured Replies

I went to get my re-map done yesterday.... and we found something very interesting / worrying.

My car had the Revo free trial some weeks back which gives you 5 hrs of power then reverts to standard....

however on reading my ecu to remap it we discovered that you need to re-write the factory program to the ecu before you have a base to work from ( expected and understood) .

More interestingly we discovered that there appeared to be discrepancys between the std map and the map to which the Revo had reverted. I dont really want to say too much more publicly about this, but if anyone from Revo wants to call me I would be interested to take the call and here an explanation.

Sadly all this took some time to sort so my remap is now not finished and not setup properly meaning that i will have to book in again - take another day off work and get it sorted...

That doesn't sound too good. I have been considering the 5hr free trial myself but now I'm not too sure. Let us know what their response is.

Oh dear. :(

I'm assuming that the base that they revert to is not your original but the base map that they have stored for a RS. If its what I think it is then its probably wastegate actuation related.

jon read your pm.

That's all a bit worrying, I've had the Revo demo a couple of months ago, and I'm off to get Jabba'd next Monday...am I going to have a similar problem?

Could you PM me the details of exactly what the problem is so that I can speak to Jabba to see whether I will have the same problem?

ffelan,

I thought that it was my imagination but now I recall that you are right about the Revo "stock" programm.

I 've uploaded the demo programm 2 months ago and tested it. The programm was characterised as 95 oct low boost. The impression was an impressive torque in the middle but after 5k rpm the drop was at stock levels.

Now after the 5 hours of driving the system "reverted" back to the stock programm.

I've done some testings with my Vag-Com and discovered a dropped boost levels in all rpm range (0,73 overboost best and dropped to 0,56 high). I've done this several times in the same place and with good outside thermal conditions. The result was similar.

The same with the results of Block 120 where a 5 hp drop at top was noticed.

Note that the car has only 13K Km and the milage difference from older previous tests was only 5-8K Km.

My final conclusion now is that Revo does not revert back to real stock but instead to their programm that looks like stock.

To prove this today i brought the car to local Revo dealer in order to finally install the real Revo SPS1 programm (98oct high boost) but with the 4 bar option.

The answer from the dealer to my question in:

"with the 4 bar FPR the switching to stock programm will resulted that the car will running rich....."

He replied ...

"don't worry ...the stock Revo option is not the real stock programm but similar to stock settings that is tuned for the 4bar FPR...."

Will see the results this afternoon...

as I say i dont want to go in to much detail about what was found.. but it was clearly different from the stock map...

If you want send me a PM with the details...

I 'm curious to know...

(I sign non-disclosure agreements if you want:D :D ).

gunnie, I think your ok. Mike takes the original chip off of the car and uses his own map as a base, not the skoda one. replacing a brand new eprom in the RS, and giving you the old one back in a cute plastic container.

manny, i thinnk your right.. i was luck that my guy had a std octavia map on file... im sure jabba will have the same...

thanks for the info, I might give them a call anyway just to give them a heads up

  • Author

there will be no harm in that... i got a *******ing for not telling my guy... i never realised what had gone on with revo.. silly of me....

just spoken to jabba and this shouldn't be a problem - they hold all of the original ecu information, and can revert to that before starting the remap.

still, a bit annoying though that it doesn't completely revert back to std after the end of the revo demo

not exactly "does what it says on the tin".... i would not have had the trial if i had known.

This raises a warranty issue; what if you have the 5 hour REVO trial and then expect it top revert to the original standard map and then have toahve some warranty work and the "non" standard map is found?

REVO should make this clear as it could catch a lot of people out.

Not very clever me thinks!

Cheers.

Adrian.

good point i hadnt thought of this...

surely they would claim that the remnants of the revo demo are as stealthy as the revo remap, and that it is not detectable!?!

although we know now that's not true based on Paul's experience...

Does this thread on SEATCupra help to shed light on what is happening here?

Perhaps I should know the answer to this from elsewhere on Briskoda, but I don't - so which remap have you opted for, Paul, and why? thinks.gif

Subject: Demo programm strange finding

Dear Sirs,

A couple of months ago I uploaded (local Greece dealer) the demo code in order to test the program.

The program used was characterized as 95oct low boost and lasted for 5 hours of driving.

A strange finding happened after the program reverted back to the so called

I have seen the advance maps for stock and for Revo "stock" and i know why they car feels flat. If i had the demo s/w still on my car I would be having it removed asap if i wanted my engine to last as Skoda intended.:(

.... ffelan,

I started to worry now.....

Have you any feedback for the actual Revo program (not the demo) for similar issues?

I decided to go with Revo because it's difficult to find here good professionals with in depth knowledge in VAG (recent 1.8T complexity of the Fly By Wire system).

Another solution is the ABT chip that is offered here for 1600 Euro:eek:

MTM chip similar price....:(

i have no feed back apart from my own experieces with the demo...

and the well document legal battle.

i personally .... and this is only my opinion would not let them chip a potatoe never mind a car.

;)

I can clarify that the trial does revert back to stock, unless you have the 4bar FPR upgrade then the stock program you can switch to is infact the 'stock' program.

With using a 4bar FPR the stock program has to be altered to take into account the difference in fuel pressure. This is not the case with either the trial or the standard performance program.

It is not required to reflash the ECU to 'stock' before flashing the performance code. The reason the trial program isn't quite to the same caliber as the full software is because it has to revert back to stock after the 5hr ignition on time period.

ffelan, any chance you can either give me a call on 01327 301 901 or drop me an email with your number so we can have a chat?! [email protected]
