What mileage is a vrs good for

Featured Replies

My 04 plate fabia is on just under 86k, I wanna know what sort of mileage there good for, as didnt want to keep it for another 20k and try and sell it if it's near the end of its life my gf is having another baby so space is gonna be a bit of an issue but I love my fabia didn't know if it was worth buying a roof box for extra space when we need it, Or get another car

Cheers guys

I'd say add another 100k on your current and you should still be laughing

The 1.9 PD TDi is a very good and reliable engine and should be good for 200K miles easily, just look at how many Taxi Octavias use the same engine and have intergalactic miles on them. A friend in Germany has an Octavia with 400,000 kms on and its still going strong.

Intergalactical miles if looked after, not quite Mars and back but close, the Moon maybe

Mine (first registered August 2006) has 140,000 on the clock and it's still on the original clutch, never mind anything else. The trick, in my opinion, is regular servicing, long runs and a bit of mechanical sympathy.

It does look like the Turbo needs changing, but I have a hybrid on the shelf in the garage and I have to say the whole car just seems robust and fit for another 140,000 miles.

Definitely try and keep yours if you can. You won't find anything quite like it, certainly not without spending a fortune.

Thanks guys think I may just get a roofbox for when I need extra space, the car dies put a smile on my face every time I take it out think I may invest in a hybrid then

Engines may go on and on but other bits are fragile/poor quality. After three suspension/steering bills totalling £1k I got rid of my one-owner 2004vRS at 64.5k miles. I'm told the replacement 2007 one needs £200 spending on new bushes at only 31k miles...

I remember seeing a thread about highest milage fabias and vrs, might be worth doing a search... I've been in numerous taxis with 100's on the clock! My brother has an estate fabia 1.9tdi and that's got 110k and still going well.

159,000 miles and 2xxBHP still going strong here

It is 100% most certainly as wja96 says about how its treated and looked after. ****ty maps, missing services, irregular oil changes will all result in premature engine damage. My engine at that mileage is quieter than my mates 60k one before it was rebuilt.

My pd 130 (205 bhp 380ftlbs) is on 118k miles and been thrashed around most of the UK tracks and a few in Europe (especially a 14 mile track in Germany)and is running like a dream!

Only problem I've had is when it broke on the German race track. Needed a new cam shaft, cam followers (exhaust followers were goosed)cam belt as this was striped of 6'' of it's teeth causing timing to be out plus other top end bits and bobs.

The upgraded followers now fitted so should be good for 300k miles :smirk:

I absolutely disagree about the suspension. I had the whole suspension (springs and dampers) replaced at roughly 50,000 miles with Eibachs and Koni FSDs and it's had a Hunter alignment after that but apart from one Koni failing an MOT 2 years ago (replaced under warranty by Koni) it's been fine. The fact that you've had two low mileage cars with suspension issues would lead me to suggest you maybe need to bodyswerve the potholes a bit more?

In your neck of the woods, ask Unit 18 about keeping your car sweet. They did all the modification work on mine upto about 80,00 miles and they're very good indeed.

Granted not a vRS, but mines on 152k

Cheers wja96 Ali does all my work on my car anyway, I just wanted to get an idea of what the are good for

Failing bushes must qualify as the most prevalent problem with Fabias after the door leakage issue. I had hoped that by 2007 they'd have sorted it but clearly not. Most of my expense was actually with the steering which is also a well known source of issues.

From what I have encountered and read on here the engine, gearbox and body are strong, but you will be forever replacing the parts around it as they wear out prematurely or fail (Suspension bushes, Turbo, steering, sensors, fragile electrics), seems a bit like triggers broom really. They are good in the respect they are better than Ford and Vauxhall in durability but nowhere near Honda or Toyota, but there isn't a Honda or Toyota that gives you the performance, low tax and insurance for the money or at all.

Carl.

There was a VRS on Ebay recently with over 200k. So that sort of mileage is well within range.

WILL BE WORN OUT ALREADY MATE!!! SELL IT TO ME CHEAP  .Only joking. Hi, am a newbie to the site, but not to vee dubs... just sold a bora that we had done 200k in. never had a clutch, turbo or anything... just regularly serviced. I have a passsat wagon 130 tdi sport with 206k on it and it is as tight as a drum... still lovely to drive. The fabia I have just got for the gf has 96k on it... as long as they have been looked after they are spot on. A friend of mine is a car dealer and only trades in audi and vw... he has seen p/ex's with 400k on!!!! the pd engines really are a reliable workhorse. I have heard of problems when people have used the incorrect oil though. Simon.

Mine's on 161k and still drives amazingly well. My old A4 with the same engine had over 200k on when I sold it. Like others have said, as long as they're serviced regularly (using the right oil), the engines are pretty durable. It'll probably be easier to sell with 86k than 106k, though, as some people seem to have a mental block with anything over 100k.
