Basicaly my vrs box needs replacing what boxes fit? Any 6 speed tdi? Obv not audi or passat as in bora 115 tdi? Cheers

All 02M six speeds will fit, but you have differing ratios so if you want the same you need the same 3 letter code from the top, or one from the same bunch of codes with that range.

Jim H - You don't get many 6 speed battery boxes.

well if you want those ratios YES :p or any other code from same group your box currently sits in

Right been to a gearbox specialist, its confirmed my box is on its way out not dmf

My car is a 55vrs so without looking wouldnt it be a HDS? Am i right in understanding that all boxes in the same group are the same just from different cars and years?

Should i be looking at getting a box from same group or go for a FSM,FJW? As the ratios look better? Sorry for all the questions, cheers

Why not get yours rebuilt for a fraction of the price? Then you know it's sorted.

I can get a second hand box with 60day warranty for 300 same code as mine, hes told me that its common bearing to go and worst case it will wreck rear case making it about 1100quid but without taking box apart he wont know for sure, if it is wrecked im screwed as i dnt have 1100 to repair, so car is usless untill i get said 300 box delivered

A casing doesn't cost anywhere near £1100 even if you changed every bearing in the box..lol

I just got mine rebuilt when it went. Unit 18 sent it to a specialist, the repair was far less than getting a used one which could be no better. I go with Ross's idea tbh

Well I can get a green one in the boot - and possibly two .DOH - it's gear boxes - pity we don't have to have t be Mystic Meg to work it out . :wonder:
