MOT Advisorys

Featured Replies

I have a few MOT advisorys as below:

Offside Front Lower inner Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement

Nearside Front Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement

Offside Front Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement

I take it this means I need new bushes? :'( I'm not bothered about uprated parts, so I presume these are fairly cheap parts from Skoda? And is it worth replacing anything else at the same time while the work is being done? Also are the 2 offside notices for the same thing? Or are they referring to different bushes (1 is lower inner and the other's location isn't specified)?

As always, many thanks for all your help!

I paid less than £70 for uprated bushes for front and rear lower arm and arb bushes :)

I suspect the parts are cheap but if you're not doing it yourself I had two replaced at a dealer in about 2009 for £90 each...

i had to have the bushes on my wishbone replaced on my 03 fabia and parts were £49 but labour was £100 as suspension had to be striped out and taken apart :(

IMO fit the best parts you can to make sure you don't need to replace again. As JamesT says, most of the cost is labour - so if you get better parts and they last longer, you can avoid having those labour costs again. I think if you get them from a Skoda dealer now you get uprated parts anyway, as they're aware of the issues with failures.

New bushes are not voided anymore, from the Octy in fact, not as harsh as Poly bushes and will last for ages.

ive just had the bushes replaced on my vrs with polybushes and i love them, drive feels so much better

The rear bush on the lower front wishbone arm (known as the console bush) the OEM original ones were carp...the replacement OEM from Skoda are the Octavia 4x4 bush (known as the X shape) still has voids in it! I've had both on my car...then got rid and fitted (Powerflex) the easiest ones to fit without removing the unit that holds it in place (console)

Full info on the bushes from my linky..

FRONT WISHBONE REAR BUSH (CONSOLE)

All of these are better than the OEM, OEM "X" type, & OEM "Cupra" types, because they allow unrestricted movement of the wishbone in the correct plane, and restrict movement in all other planes.

Powerflex = PFF85-602 = This is a two piece push in design. (Best if you don't want to remove the console unit, etc.)

Whiteline = W0605 = This is a two piece push in design.

SuperPro = SPF3271K = This is a two peice design with the outer piece bonded to a metal sleeve. This design needs the console to be removed from the car and the outer piece pressing into the console like the OEM bushes. (Best)

SuperPro = SPF3273K = This is the offset version of above which can be used as "anti-lift" or "steering correction". In anti-lift configuration it is very good for reducing "hop and skip" of the inside wheel on lowered cars with stiff suspension.
