How Fast are Briskoda?

Featured Replies

I'll happily take on the organising if people are up for it (i've got spare time now i'm not doing the photo challenge ;))

I know there are a few member out there with track cars but to be true to the format this is a fastest Skoda competition (meaning BossFox you ahve to leave the GTR at home :p)

There you go, I've enlarged the important bit. :)

Sorry Col.

I know there are members who have moved on to other bigger, better or more hairdressy marques but I was indeed hoping to make it a Skoda only shoot out.

Yes i am also aware of the hypocricy of Mr Rooney sneaking in with an Ibiza but that is essentially a Fabia in disguise :S

MSV are draggig their heels a little.

They have essentially confirmed that each session runs with a minimum of 18 cars - if we can get that many signed up it essentially ensures us an exclusive Briskoda only session

I have also pushed them hard abouit the fact that a club booking of this kind would net them almost £2000 with minimum effort so am gettnig them to work on some sort of discount.

The main difficulty seems to be dates.

So far (as said above) the latest event shown on the website is March 12th.

I've asked them to confirm provisioanl dates for May/June time but as yet no dice.

Alternatively if everyone is eager beavers we can always book up for the 12th March

AS soon as i have any more info I shall update

A bit of a leftfield entry here but, date dependant, I'd happily see what a Shark stage 1 mapped Yeti is capable of. :giggle:

I think the problem there is it's open to public booking, so in the meantime (or already) you could have other people already booked in.

The later dates have not been released yet, so once MSV sort themselves out they'll be able to reserve a session for us and not put it on the website for public bookings.

By the way Pasty, forgot to tell you that a fair number of the MSV people are at the Autosport show and so they won't be back up to full strength in the office until next Monday (16th).

I'm sure they'll be able to sort a date out then.

I reckon if you leave the seat in you will have too leave the rest inIMO, seat is not skoda although vag group , not fair that's car racism emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

Ah.

Hadn't realised it was Autosport this week that would probably explain it.

I also can't imagine how difficult it must be to allocate that a track that far ahead.

Given we're aiming for May/June dates i'm not exactly putting much pressure on.

Yes argee entirely about the Seat.

At the time of his original adding to the list it was much shorter and I was glad of the interest and could allow a slight bend in the Skoda only rule. Now the numbers are up to acceptable levels it seems fair to make it Skoda only.

You are indeed wise, O magnificent leader.

Are you going to pay for it and collect the money?

Just curious as to hold a date they'll probably want a deposit.

skoda only hehe ill just put the skoda badges on the jag....i mean skoda xkr hahahaha :giggle:

As much as I like making things happen I'm not in a position to pay in full for all the places upfront.

Nor given the forum tendancy for people to stick their name on a list then not come through with payment/participation would i be prepared to do it that way anyways.

(That's not aimed at anyone specific just my experience re: calendars/badges/Jason & castle combe)

However it will, like you say, depend on MSV.

Hopefully they'll play ball and maybe let me put down a refundable deposit of say 10% on all the places and give us a week or 2 to all individually book with them.

Then when the deadline passes should Briskoda not fill all the spaces they refund my deposit, and put the remaining spaces on general sale.

This would result, I assume, in those who have paid partaking in a session with with some "normos" - but that wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

This is all pure speculation though, and i may be massively naive about how it'll all play out :)

Although this is dependant on dates as I have six weddings this year all near March/April/May/June and then my own wedding in August! :D

Im very intrested in doing this, but need a definite date as to say weather I can make it or not. However i have a few questions:

1. Does it matter that I havent been on at track day before? (I have done karting and experiance days)

2. Do I need to take out track day insurance?

3. What are the "hidden" costs, am I going to get through a set of tyres, brakes, tank of fuel etc...?

4. Do I need to hire a helmet?

Sorry for the amature questions. :|

Cheers,

Ilmor

1. Not really, you have one hour of practice time before the "hot laps".

2. It's not a requirement, but many do for peace of mind.

3. It's extra wear on the car, but most likely it's 20 minutes on, let the car cool for 20 more, then another 20 minutes on. Finally two hot laps. So you shouldn't do much to the car other than use half a tank of fuel.

4. Yes. Normally cost about £10.

in addition to Mr Fox's wise words

1 - bear in mind this isn't a normal track day. There'll only be a maximum of 20 cars on track for the hour practise and for the timed laps you'll be on your own!

2 - assuming we get a Briskoda excluive session yuo'll be out there with people you know (in a forum sense) which allows slightly more peice of mind than being out with strangers. Bedford is also an airfield so no armco to hit if it does go wrong!

3 - increased wear is the only thing to wory about but the absolute maximum flat out running will be an hour and 10 minutes so probably the same wear as if you went for an extended brisk drive on the road

4 - Yes you will need a helmet. MSV shodul be available to hire them or I've got 2 if all else fails. (Worst come to worst as we'd be on the track one at a time in the afternoon we coudl all share one helmet! :D)

I am just concerned that I dont know any track etiquette thats all. I know im not going to be the fastest by a long way (proberbly one of the slowest) and so dont want to get in the way of other faster cars.

Good, im glad there is no armco. If I do come, would you advise taking out track day insurance as it is my daily driver?

Thanks for both replys PastyBoy and BossFox

I'll take it that my Ibiza vrs ;) is excluded from this then?? Might try and pop down to enjoy the specticle anyway (date depending)I'm sure it'll be a cracking day out

Track etiquiette will be explained on the day "over take on the left only etc" and everyone is there for the same reason.

There'll aways be quicker people on a track day you just have to do your best to not slow themup too much.

(I was the slowest thing on track for a whole day at oulton Park and spent most of the tie divingo ut of the way of 800hp Evo's but we were all there to have a laugh so people understand)

Track day insurance is up to you.

Personally most won't bother.

As there is no armco to hit chances of needing it are reduced as an "off" just sees you in the grass.

However there will be other cars out there for the practise session and accidents can happen.

But in my opinion they are less likely tahtn on the road, everyont is thinknig the same and goingthe same way for a start!

You acn always try the 15 minute session with other Briskoa people at Castle Combe to see how you get on

Yeah looks that way lad

Skoda interest is great enough to rule out any Spanish siblings ;)

I'm interested, but it would be date dependant... where is it again?

It seems dear to me... You get 4 laps plus an hour practice ?? For £99 but sod it il have some of it just for a laugh. I have been doing track days for the last 4 years and and getting there now lol. Would be interesting to see how the vrs wrc does on track
