Running a VRS on Vegetable Oil

Featured Replies

I'm curious to know if anyone has ran their VRS on Vegetable oil and taken note of any change in performance etcc?

I'd delete this thread. Wouldnt recommend it, neither does SKODA.

I can see why someone would try this on a 15 year old diesel that's worth less than £500 but seriously, on a vRS that's a couple of years old?????

I would be less worried about the change in performance and more worried by it knackering the engine.

Neither a PD or a CR engine will be happy with veg oil. Don't try it unless you want to risk very expensive fuel system damage.

Some old-tech diesels with Bosch rotary fuel pumps could cope with straight veg oil but I wouldn't try it in anything built in the last 10 years.

I too wouldn't have the balls to try it and VAG don't recommend it either.

HOWEVER there is a Superb owner in Australia currently on here who is running his CR on veg oil or Bio diesel (forget which)

What a CR on veg oil.

Good luck to you, but I wouldn't.

Older IDI dervs such as the XUD sure, but not a CR engine.

This would sprout all kinds of issues

Like fuel leeks?

.........All without mentioning DPF!

I used to run my old X plate mk1 octy on it without any problems... Except the exhaust fumes always made me hungry.

I bet that was a pre-PD engine though? A 90 or 110 perhaps?

My cr has a sign saying no bio diesel so would assume this would be a problem if you cant even use that! As has already been said I would prob go more for an old £500 diesel and give it a go on that if you need some bargain basement transport.

Put veg oil in and you'll have had your chips when it comes to warranty repairs. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

No idea nick... It was an SDI if that helps any, also put half a tank of petrol in it once, just filled rest of tank with diesel and off I went...

Very likely a good old fashioned Bosch rotary pump system then. They could run on just about anything liquid and vaguely oily!

suppose you could sayit's been "Chipped"emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I bet it only ran on Frydays!

Don't worry Oil be back later.

Mine only runs on petrol...

Like fuel leeks?

Worse....a has bean

I would imagine it would batter the engine :giggle:

30,000 psi veg oil through a PD injector.........Good luck with that.

Oh and the mess inside your inlet manifold from ERG.........I'd buy a steam cleaner if I was you :p

Here is the thread

It could end up being Scraps...emoticon-0144-nod.gif

I ran my common rail Mitsubishi L200 on B100 with no problems, just had to change my fuel filter after a few 100 miles as bio is a natural de-greaser and cleans all the crap deposited by dino, only way to run on pure veg is to have it pre-heated to make it viscose enough before it enters the injectors. Older cars are less likely to be able to run on bio/veg as it eats rubber seals fitted in earlier engines.
