This thread just gets better.

What an outstanding thread.

So, are mk1 Fabia drivers the new Saxo crews of the world.

Love your 'we can beat anything' way of looking at life.

What do it for me though are the torque comments lol. The i have 400lbft for a split second before tthe power band disappears ideas also amuse me. But my favourite is this

the fabia will always win because the focus will have to stop at a petrol station to fill up first

Quote of the thread for me :giggle: was the OP planning on racing him in a 24hr endurance race or something!!!

I'm also yet to see one of these '240hp' mk1 vRS make anywhere near those figures on a dyno dynamics or bapro roller and I've seen a few chancers attempt it.

I hope not

Did anyone mention can of worms?

Yes, been there, seen it, done it.

You can't convince everyone. Even if a standard injector car makes over 250bhp on Shark's rollers which are known to be fairly honest and more correct than AMD.

They just go quiet... then start up again a month or so later with the same old argument.

With the same old willy waivers claiming farsical figures

That's why I've always quoted a Santa Pod time in my sig and not a bhp. :D

It's not really open to opinion. (or my imagination)

Hi, if i tuned my fabia vrs to 240bhp and nearly 400 ft torque would it keep up with a focus st tuned to 300bhp in mid gear pull and off the line?

or would it be better to get a octavia vrs and tune it to a bit over 300bhp. what mods do u need to get mk2 octavia vrs to 300bhp?

thanks

First of all, are you talking of a 'true' 240Hp or a 'Forum 240hp'. They are two vastly different beasts.

First of all you need to bear in mind that figures, both torque and power don't mean **** in reality. What matters in a performance car is the area under the curve, this is what equates to a fast car. More area under the curve = faster car. By that i mean you could have a car with a power/torque spike that makes an extra 20hp for 500rpm, does that mean its faster than a car with 20Hp less, not likely at all.

A diesel for instance has a comparatively small power band. So this torque advantage you all allegedly have over every car on the market, is only there for a small period. Now for comparison a Focus ST with 300hp will have around 350-360lbft of torque, but he'll have this nice lump of torque lasting over a mucvh longer rev band, and the net result is a car that is much more flexible, tractable and whilst it might not give you the millisecond pin in the chair effect of a diesel, its actually faster.

Where the Fabia might gain advantage is in the power to weight area and maybe off the line. But riolling he'd toy with you all day, and have much more fun with his better chassis, engine note and general all round car.

Now I had a stage 2+ Octavia vRS which was running 280hp, but that peak figure doesnt say it all. The 2.0TFSI in stage 2+ will hit that power +- 5hp ish at around 4500rpm and hold it all the way to 6500rpm. in real term that equates to an on the road performance that will latch you onto the back of a Focus RS all day long, (until you hit a corner).

Ive had bought he Focus ST and a Octavia vRS, i absolutely loved both but i preferred the Octavia, which was marginally better in all the areas you care about. It also once tuned to max output, had around 10mpg better economy than my Focus was standard.

In summary., i wouldnt waste your time tuning your Fabia to that output just to beat him in a straight line. Get a better platform from the offset. Both the Octavia and Focus are better platforms from the offset, and even better once tuned. You'll always be lagging behind in the Fabia

Surely your looking at it wrong? Fabia vs Fiesta, Octavia vs Focus? Yeti vs Kuga? :D

Wait until the new Fiesta ST comes out. There'll be a brand new argument then emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Deary me :D all you mk2 vrs owners are as bad as us with all this area under the curve that's all your read when you go into the mark 2 :D

Yes. HTH.

Yep. we like to use fact over fiction.

Nice one !

+1.

Since "performance" is all about the area under the curve, not just premature, smoky torque spikes...

I came across this sort of argument on the Peugoet 306 gti6 Forum and the only way to up the game with those cars was to supercharge them up to 230 bhp or even more with a second stage and up to 400 bhp was achieved via Rotrex equipment I think. Some people just want to ‘go for it’ so if this guy wants to up the anti why not? He may not match the ST (certainly in top speed) like for like but perhaps he just wants to get the last ounce out of his VRS and be a nuisance value, which he certainly will be, to his mate and his Focus ST.

reading all these comments, i just wanted to be able to keep up a bit more with my mates st. Looks like 220bhp is a bit more cheaper to do than 240bhp. looking at 2008 st you can get one for about 10k. 4k is a lot of money to spend but people don't expect that power from a skoda lol.

At the moment my fabia is remap to 175bhp and 300 ft torque, it is quite fast but just want a bit more power.

Luke's is

does he even believe that any more?

as for power/weight, a 240bhp Fabia loses there too. with equal drivers I can't see how it's possible for a car with less torque, a lot less power and a massively narrower power band being quicker, even if it is about 70kg lighter (but still manages a lower power to weight ratio)

Pretty pointless thread, buy a Focus ST or another performance car. Just my opinion of course.

Is there any point when that will be almost how much the car is worth? (my apologises if you have a really new SE) as people have said, surely best to take your car and your £4k and get a proper performance car.

I don't see a problem in spending 4 grand on a 4 or 5 grand car, you'd still be spending money on go faster bits :D doing over 100 miles a day 5 days a week in an ST or similar would cost a bomb in fuel - I regularly see the same ST on my drive to and from work and it's sat at 50-55 up and down the M40, what's the point

It depends what you want. I wanted a fairly standard looking VRS that would surprise people. Yes, it's money I'll never see again, but it was my choice. And the car is "me" because it's exactly what I wanted.

The shock value when you overtake sports cars in a diesel Skoda hatchback is great.

Even blowing big money on something great doesn't feel so personal. Even if it's a better car.

It can draw too much attention and everybody expects it to be very fast.

Fair enough, I will stand myself corrected :)
