I'm stumped... How did those Skoda engineers get the CD changer in the boot? I tried to find any screws, but none that I could feel. I tried pulling, pushing and frigging, but it remained firmly locked into position :(

So how do you remove it?

What bolts? There is nothing but carpet around the changer? Or do I have to unscrew these on the other side of the changer, i.e. on the outside of the car?

Just go with MonkeyHanger's suggestion...

If you pull the carpet bit firmly but gently with a wiggle it will come off, and the changer unit is screwed

So is that in a lifting movement (slide upwards) or pulling movement?

a little of both...

It's comes off horizontally, but needs a bit of vertical persuasion. Basically, pull it in each direction

until you feel it give a bit, and repeat until you have it out of the car...

Why do you have to wiggle when pulling the carpet? And what's best to do the wiggling with?

The carpet enclosure is screwed onto the change unit, with

gaps down either side. Into these gaps slide the "prong" type

things in the side of the boot.

And wiggling with your hands is sufficient, though a JML

I never realised the changer was so well attached!

Mine has 2 strips of velcro to hold it to the carpet under the passenger seat and that's it

My new one doesn't even have Velcro to hold it! Not that it needs it, very snug fit...

Actually...has your CD changer got a "mounting direction switch" on it? Some way of telling the

unit at which angle it will be mounted, from horizontal through to vertical?

Mine has, and I set it to vertical when I was planning on mounting it on the boot side, but didn't

put it back to horizontal before putting it horizontally...still works fine though.

Anyone any idea what these switches actually do?

Mine does has some sort of "orientation" control on it - a rotary (mechanical) dial on either side.

When it was first installed these were set incorrectly, and the changer skipped all the bl00dy time! Once the setting was corrected, it was fine

Hmm...I'll have to try it with proper CDs, see if it skips...

Audio as opposed to MP3, should I say, as I'd imagine the MP3 buffering is longer...

I guess if the changer has a skip buffer you might not notice it, even if it was skipping as a result of being in the 'incorrect orientation'. So if you're not having problems with the MP3s then I don't think it will show with std audio either.

Just a wild guess........:p

Depends really how the buffer works - if it's fixed memory usage but stores the MP3 in original

form, it will effectively increase the buffer tenfoldish. Guess I could do with finding some vigorous

speed bumps.. .
