First Weekend

Featured Replies

Having collected the car last Wednesday , we went to visit friends and family in Devon for the weekend. The car proved quite a star, the grandchildren wanted the sunroof open even though it was freezing! The car performed perfectly and has a surprising amount of "grunt" in the lower gears so I'm happy with the choice of the 110BHP unit. As many people on the site have observed, the Yeti is very well screwed together and exudes class , the interior finish would be at home in a vehicle costing much much more. I'm struggling to find anything to criticise, the Diesel accelerator pedal takes a little getting used to if you haven't driven one for long, (3 stalls!)and the gearbox requires that I learn to count to six, which is a challenge for an elderly and mathematically deficient old bloke like me. The only fault that I've identified so far is the centre arm rest which can't be raised high enough for me to rest my arm on, everything else was perfect, the Bolero unit drew gasps of admiration for it's nifty touchscreen and SD card capacity, my first CD was by Tom Waits, and God knows how we did! Any suggestions for the armrest prob gratefully received.

Good to hear you are enjoying your Yeti.

The armrest should adjust up and lock into your desired height on the way back down, unless you have really short arms .

On the assumption you have successfully raised the armrest to its maximum locking state and find this insufficient, you could try lowering the seat and the steering wheel. On a personal note I saw someone else mention the fact that they couldn't rest their left arm on the armrest and still hold the steering wheel; but I have no such problem. The seat is fully adjustable fore and aft as is the wheel, apart from the height/rake adjustments for both.

Can I ask what you meant about the diesel accelerator pedal?

Re the diesel pedal, it's my fault, having gone from a well worn in Peugeot 307, 8yrs old, the accelerator on the Yeti required a lot more effort than it but I'm used to it already. :)

An awful lot of Yeti virgins stall the first (few) times out. In fact I have to confess that I still occasionally lurch to an inadvertent halt - and feel a complete prat as a result.

Get a DSG George! :D

In excess of a million miles up and down with a clutch coupled with some injuries wore out my left knee. The last 8 years of automatics and much better apart from walking down steep hills.

Cheers

Peter

 Yep, me too, on the test drive just as I pulled out of the Dealership :giggle: :p

One of the first things I noticed about the 170hp is the very light clutch. Wife even noticed it being light compared to her Golf 1.6tdi.

Me too - did so today as well.

The armrest "clicks" are difficult to grasp at first. You lift the front of the armrest by about 3 inches and then just let it sort of "drop" without letting go of it. It will click into the top of the four or five positions it can be in. But to go further down you have to lift it all the way up again and then "drop" it 2 clicks. But even so I feel it needs to go further foward and be higher up.

Got Skoddy yesterday.Very impressed (apart from the documentation!!!)

Even though driving it gently there seems to be much less tubo-lag than on my old Vel Satis (petrol,2.0 litre turbo.

One thing I do miss however is the electric handbrake; at traffic lights, touch a button and the brakes were on, No blinding of the person behind from the brake lights. When the lights went green just touching the accelerator released them

The heated front seat is much better than the Renault's - really does my nack-eared old back good. :D

The mk6 Golf has what looks to be the exact armrest that is in the Yeti however the padded part can slide forward about 6'' putting it in a far better position for driving although it then makes the handbrake difficult to operate.

Has anyone tried sliding the top of the armrest forward on the Yeti, think I'll go and try.

Ok, I just went and checked, the armrest does slide forward about 3-4''.

You all probably knew that anyway!

I'm assuming you mean the heating of the back rest of the front seat aswell as the seat base.

Otherwise you have a unique Yeti with heated rear seats :envy:

:giggle: Indeed we all did. That was my point as well: it does not slide forward far enough. :giggle:

OR MacFadyin has VERY long legs and arms to actually drive the car from the back seat! I seem to remember a scene in one of the Police Academy movies where Hightower drove a little '70s Honda Civic this way: ripping out the front seats and driving it from the back seat. :giggle:

Knew about the sliding, but didn't know about the height adjustment. This was the only grip on the test drive, that the armrest was to low. Hopefully this will fix it.

ripping out the back seats and driving it from there:giggle:

Should that be ripping out the front seats :giggle:

Runaway, Runaway, :x

Says the man with 2 in-car fridges... Bother! With the armrest up, I've only got one.

Doh!!!! Indeed. Removing the FRONT seats. I'll fix the error of my ways.

To be honest I've never ever used either. Had it in a previous car and found it does not really keep things cold.

They only seem to keep things at car temp, but I could be wrong. ie climatronic temp. Or should they be just air conditioned?

I think you hit the nail on the head. AFAIK they just feed in the temperature as set on the climatronic. BUT which one? I'd wager the glove box would be the passenger's temperature? But then in us having "converted" RHD cars maybe the HVAC unit was not mirrored (I'm sure it won't be in fact) and thus the driver's temperature sets that of the glove box? I know the vents behind the armrest to the rear passengers are split 50/50 taking their respective temperatures from what mum and dad's are in the front. FIGHT!!! So who knows which one goes to the armrest "fridge"? I can't for a moment imagine there will be THREE pipes running there (one for each vent and one for the "fridge").

I meant seat back of course. English is no longer my first language and I tend to type faster than I think - not that that's very fast these days.

Isn't every Yeti unique?

In the six years I had the Renault the Alarm never went off once but out of bed like a shot half an hour ago when Skoddy started to bleep. No signs of anything being attempted( the car's covered in ice) so it must be the pine martens again :(
