MPG

Oh well I may as well add my figures for a 140 manual estate, when quite well loaded, driving from within West London to within Southampton, the best I have got was 61mpg driving at night when not much traffic in West London, speed circa 70+ -, and during daytime with heavy traffic in London and Southampton, usually 52-55mpg, with speed not being kept down for economy. In so doing, I do not accelerate strongly and allow the car to build up to its own happy speed on the motorway which is anything between 70 - 85. Car has only done 4500 miles as yet. And I did buy a diesel for economy, plus I find a diesel nicer to drive, more torque and higher mph per 1000 rpm. Mine shows 38 mph for 1000 rpm and is absurdly low at times, less than 1500 rpm in 6th gear, probably lower than is good for the engine but at which it does not seem to object.

... calibrating the trip computer to show a more accurate MPG reading??

Has anyone managed to get Skoda to do this under warranty? Or is it only possible with VCDS?

No reason at all why they would do it under warranty, it is still working ... just it's optimistic, just like your speedo is.

The Passat is the same, globally.

Yeah, right .... I'll remember that the next time I have to pay them: maybe I'll offer a working, but optimistic check :D

I too am disappointed in my CR140's Fuel Consumption. It has only done just over 2000 miles and I too am getting in the low 40's mpg. Does anyone have experience that it improves when it 'loosens up'?

I came to the Superb from a Passat SE TDi 130PD which was chipped. I never saw less than 50mpg and I always deducted 10% to allow for 'inaccuracies'.

I understand that chipping a CR diesel is not as easy as the PD due to the DPF. Ha sanyone any experience of Chipping and/or Remap with some ideas of cost and any mpg improvement?

Would forumites recommend I wait a bit before I do this?

Thanks in advance.

Tuning the CR is easy most of the specialist tuners can offer a map that will be fine with the dpf , but in my epxerience these cars can take 10,000 miles to loosen up properly, economy should gradually imporve over time

If you mapped the passat the display would likely be even more inaccurate since they dont take into account the new settings for the engine

Whilst my car was a 170 CR it was rather consistent in fuel consumption as it loosened:

All figures are cumulative

5K 46.37

10K 46.63

15K 46.06

20K 45.53

25K 46.07

30K 46.32

35K 46.16

40K 46.26

45K 46.50

50K 46.76

55K 46.79

So better towards the end, but not significantly.

I've been using Fuel Friend since day 1 of getting my car in October last year.

It's a Superb Estate 170CR DSG

From my first fill (5 miles on the clock and empty) to my latest, earlier this week at just under 12K, I've averaged 37.30 MPG.

I don't tend to hang about on the motorways but generally I drive a LOT nicer than I did in my old manual PD Octavia Vrs, where I got around 42MPG over 130K.

Given that I have a heavier more comfortable car, mated to a DSG box I reckon can live with the reduced MPG...

After 8000 mls my petrol motor, 160bhp DSG, is averaging 38.5MPG on the MDF with a mixture of journeys. The MDF, figure2, seems to reset itself at around 2500mls, The manual says reset occurs at 10,000 mls or is it km? Has anyone else experienced this?
