Rear screen wiper motor

Featured Replies

I have been banging on some time now about my rear screen washer which has not been working properly for some time, I have tried most things which you guys reccomend to try all to no avail.Today it went in for service and I asked them to take a look at it.They said they blow down the tube sometimes to rectify it but when they looked at it there was a leak of water coming through the motor. So what do you think of their charge for doing it,£181.27?.

I know the wiper motor is £80, and is on back order they have that many broken ones they cant keep up...says it all about the brand.

£181 is a bit steep likes.

If you don't mind buying 2nd hand, then try SkoSpares. They are a specialist Skoda Breakers yard.

I bought one from them a few years ago when mine failed. I think I paid around £25 for it.

As Grizzle said the part is only £80. I replaced it myself on my last VRS, the hardest part was removing the boot trim and then removing the wiper arm. But it's a straight forward job I think the part is also dealer only.

£100 for fitting seems a little steep but is probably correct by the time you factor in the fiddle factor of getting the trim off & on and replacing the clips that break and then add the VAT.

When I replaced my motor it was corroded internally and seized solid. Removing the wiper arm can also been problematic. I used a puller and had to put considerable force on it to remove it. I would never have been successful without the tool. Refitting the plastic trim at the end of the job is very fiddly. Unless the new motors have been redesigned then the job will need to be repeated in a few years time :(

Does anyone have any top tips on getting the wiper arm off the axle? I've successfully removed the nozzle and the nut and tried soaking with WD40 etc and much wiggling but haven't got anywhere. What sort of puller are you talking about KevinSt?

Welcome to hear any (sensible emoticon-0105-wink.gif) ideas

Ed

Somthing like this I guess Laser 4751 Arm Wiper Puller from Amazon

I used a wrench and a rag to protect the windshield

I think someone should merge this topic with this one

Thanks FF, I got one of these from Machine Mart, but still haven't been able to shift it :(

As someone on their site suggested, you might need to hold the arms in with either a hefty cable tie or jubilee clip to stop it slipping off, or try one of these: Sealey Heavy Duty WiperArm Puller or a cheaper version: Machine Mart - Battery terminal/bearing puller.

I've read a few people on here suggesting slackening the nut then levering up underneath the arm with a large screwdriver or spanner or even clobbering it with a hammer, but I'm a worried about doing either due to the proximity of the rear windscreen! :wonder:

Worked for me too, small sheet of thin plywood over screen to protect it then 10mm open end spanner levered over a screwdriver handle if I remember correctly it does go with quite a pop though

oh, and there have been a couple of revisions to the wiper motor since my 05 car's version so hopefully they may have fixed the problem and I won't need to do it again, longest/hardest part was replacing the rear inner trim on the hatchback
