BLT hybrid trubo help

Featured Replies

Hi fokes im having an issue getting my pd130 BLT mapped for my new hybrid turbo, my car isnt actually a fabia but is a polo gt which is pritty much identical and im not having much luck in getting an answer from other forums . heres what mods have been carried out so far.

GT1749VA hybrid turbo from CR turboes

Seat sport FMIC

MIllteck downpipe and decat exhaust

Pd160 intake

Sachs Clutch

Basically i have put the car down to Performance HQ in scotland for its remap. now upon the first attempt we found that its stage 1 map was carried out using a Dastek unichip which has since been removed and it is now driving like a standard pd130

so second attempt the car wouldnt go above 2000rpm and would smoke heavily and give a loud rattle not sure where from.

3rd attempt the EGR was fiddled with because it was believed to have been blanked off, so pipe from the turbo was fabricated to fit new turbo/egr. but still no success in getting above the 2000rpm mark.

the mapper told me that the car is overfueling throughout the range now i know some hybrids are smokey but from what he was telling me it was really bad.

do i require anything else before getting this mapped correctly. or are the guys just being paranoid and should they just go for it on the rollers. ive read hundreds of hybrid project threads now and i cant find anything different as to what i have done.

the guys at Performance HQ now want to check the timing and fueling. theyve already did a smoke test for boost leaks and none were found. i also read that the actuator may need set up? can anyone shed any light as im now giving up hope that this will ever get completed.

Performance hq.... Hmmm who are they?

Id get it mapped properly by a decent mapper

Sounds like they have no idea what they're doing.

Give Shark Performance a call

If its not boosting then I'd say the actuator hasn't been setup. Have you got access to vag com/VCDS?

Does it boost fine with the standard map?

If the actuator is setup right then mapping will be a walk in the park for a pro :)

The overfueling comment is balls. Bigger/hybrids have nothing to do with the fueling. If its over fuelling then that's simply the mapping.

You've spent the money on it do far so don't cut corners when it comes to mapping, possibly the single most important bit :) go to who knows the score :)

Shark or Unit 18

I see your in scotland

Star performance at kirkcaldy are your best bet, although they arent the most welcoming

yeah im up the north east of scotland and it was a 3 hour drive to performance hq. i wouldnt say theyre bad mappers but not sure if they have much experience with hybrids. the guy who maps it russ used to work at wallace performance and is very well known for being one of the best when it comes to mapping evos.

yes i do have access to vagcom and yes it does boost a little with the standard map its only during startup and cold running if you are at low revs and put ur foot down it would climb to about 2000rpm and then nothing would happen but black reek would belch out the exhaust u have to pump the throttle sometimes in order for it to boost.

thanks for the replies tho lads i will pass on the info see what they think, ive already spent loads on diagnosing the problem but mabe you are rite mabe the garage just simply dont know what theyre doing with the dirty diesel. i will give star performance a call and ask if they have much experience with this setup if they havent looks like il have a long drive down to england oh the joys haha

Sounds like a hardware problem. Apart from testing for boost leaks, testing the N75 is working and actuator is setup right I'm not sure what it could be.

Wasn't aware Evos ran PD TDI engines ;)

This could easily be another example of just using the wrong tool for the job, by which I mean your mapper. If I had an Evo, I probably wouldn't take it to Shark, they deal mainly with European cars and a lot of VAG stuff. Tuning petrol is totally different to tuning diesel, being good at one doesn't automatically mean you're good at tuning the other. Combined with ECU differences between Japanese systems and the Bosch EDC16 on your car, etc.

IMO, you should find yourself a good VAG specialist who have a good track record of tuning diesels and hybrids. Shark come to mind, but not sure whether they can "remote tune" hybrid units or not with their STS units.

You mean Bosch edc15p+. :)

Agree with the petrol/diesel comment. But other than that the principles are the same across brands and most share similar ecu's. However the mapper needs to know where the maps are and how the ecu uses them. But then they have their hardware/software supplier to which they can purchase maps and map packs.

Probably, couldn't remember whether it was 15 or 16 on these, but since you're mapping your own ECU and have at least one spare, I'll admit that I'm wrong :)

Star performance have the knowledge....

They had a hybrid they tracked at knockhill....

Also they use richard washbrook to map them and he is the best in the uk....

But they arent the most friendliest.... In my experience

yeah a mate hasnt had much luck with star performance iether, to be honest i dont mind the 9 hour journey down if it is 100% going to be a success so, ive also been recommended r tech from a fellow polo hybrid owner

i emailed CR turboes asking if the actuator was set up reeady for the turbo to go onto the car this was my reply-

The actuator is set to the original settings as per the manufacturer when we do the unit,

would it require a different setting if the internals have all been upgraded??

I read somewhere recently that it does. Not sure how true that is.

If you can log block 11 and carry out a WOT acceleration from 2k to red line. You should be seeing the duty cycle go from around 20% to around 70% at the top end.

im not home for another week like so cant do it now but i will. anybody any idea what the rattle could be its almost as if the turbo is stalling when it happens

bit of an update to my situation. i fired the ecu off to jabbasport who loaded on a map from another hybrid BLT. now i still have the issue when starting at low revs i put my foot down and i get no boost, alot of black smoke, and an abnormal rattle coming from somewhere. however when i pump the throttle like i did before the car takes off. it is very quick but this low revs problem is still something i want to get rid of, does anyone have any ideas to what it could be? also when flat out the car is quite smokey still!

Any logs?

The black smoke and not boosting sounds like what happened to me after plugging the EGR vacuum pipe. I un-plugged it and it's been fine ever since. Maybe a thought if you have blocked it off!

all boost pipes were tested at performance hq and no leaks were found.

no i havent gotten round to logging because the vagcom laptop i use cant run off its battery so will mabe try sourcing one that can.

and my egr has not been touched at all, just a modified pipe from the exhaust side to the egr to fit the new turbo.

Star performance have always been a great help for me!,John knows his stuff as well
