Does anyone use GiffGaff?

Featured Replies

Runs on O2's network (which I've used for 10 years so know it's a proven network and signal, least where I need it!)

The deals seem good and I'm already on an O2 SIM-only tariff, but could half my monthly charge. Just wondered if anyone here was using them and if you'd recommend.

Thanks,

No experience with them myself but Im on a sim only package too and save a great deal of money. Gif gaf was mentioned on here when I was looking and I've heard a lot of good things about them.

Cheers. Just wondering if the signal and service will be as good, whether O2 customers are prioritised, that sort of thing.

As for SIM-only, I just prefer to not be tied to an 18/24 month contract and change phones when I see fit.

I've just moved from them to Orange but only because Orange were doing an even cheaper deal! The Orange/Tmobile coverage is slightly better though.

Interesting. How did you find the coverage and level of service when you were with them? Have any problems?

Cheers,

Steve

Been on giffgaff since June last year. Not really noticed any difference in service from being on Vodafone previously.

If you want a SIM: http://giffgaff.com/orders/affiliate/daiking

As its a community you could have a look on the help forums for any particular issues you're concerned about. Are there no decent 02 sim deals?

I'm thinking about them too, would be good to hear more

I didn't find the coverage that bad but obviously the choice of 2 networks is better than 1. The orange deal is only available by phoning and not on their site.

What's the Orange deal? My wife is due an upgrade although she wants a phone too.

Thanks. Think I might make the switch then emoticon-0148-yes.gif

used them for a few months now and its as good as when i was O2

Depends on the networks. Despite the fact I have T-Mobile and Orange to choose from, the signal in my office is total ****. Some days I'm lucky and can make a phonecall without breaking up if I stand leaning against the window, most days it's crackly even doing that. With the phone in my pocket at my desk it'll often lose a signal altogether and the first I know about phonecalls is when it connects for long enough to receive the "you missed a call from...." text messages.

In theory, Everything Everywhere is great. Two massive networks to choose from. In practice, not that simple. Personally I can't wait until it ends so I can drop the contract, move to GiffGaff, and save myself £20+ each month while simultaneously not being tied into anything :)

To port a number, you have to activate the giffgaff SIM with a new number and then start the porting process by submitting a PAC. This would give you a chance to test the performance/signal before committing with the port. Giffgaff are owned by Telefonica int he forst place.

The only 'issues' as such I have seen are that I have had to manually enter my 3g settings for my particular phone - another handset was able to auto set up via giffgaff text.

And recently my phone has struggled to send text messages at the first attempt and also reset itself when I used another gg sim in it. I'm pretty sure these are problems with my phone rather than GG as they have not done it before and the phone is over 2 years old.

another thing, the sims free so why not try it out. also if you get a sim through another giff gaffer then you both get a bonus, may aswell let a friend get something for free, £5 i think last time i checked

the whole giff gaff community is mainly by likeminded people, all done online but considering theres no ties youve nothing to lose by trying

You can get the SIM for free but you have to activate it with 10 quid so it does cost to try it but you are given £5 extra credit and if you get a SIM from an existing member, they also get £5.

That is where GG trumps other providers. If you can get others to sign up, gg pay you to use their service.

Yes, I did notice the referral system. A nice idea emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I went for the 12 month SIM only Panther deal which costs me £8 per month instead of the advertised £15.50.

I wasn't too bothered about upgrading my phone so it suits me just fine.

can you not just put a sim in and see if it gets a signal, not talking about making a call, its been months since i got one i cant remember?

There's a Quidco deal for Giff Gaff too Steve. £1 cashback when you get the SIM and another £4 cashback when you activate it.

Your kind of deal then Alistar.emoticon-0100-smile.gifemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I personally like the theory but I keep reading of issues.

Like total data loss for over 7 days and the only 'support' being a community also having the same issue. The outage affected over 1/2 their customers IIRC from the register article. I'm sure I've also read sms and mms issues are common.

Lack of instant support is what puts me off.

Mms? How quaint, have recently experienced an issue getting some text messages away first time but its not happened until a couple of weeks ago and then not that often. Not had any data issues so must be lucky. First time for everything.

Indeed it is, look after the pennies and the pounds shall look after themselves
