The Definitive Answer On Spark Plugs

Featured Replies

Hy all, I'm going to change the plugs on my Octi over the week end and I have searched through the many threads on here relating to the matter. Some say Bosch, some NGK etc etc. So which make and number plugs are best for a stage 1 vRS? Also what is the torque setting for refitting the plugs?

Cheers

Howard

NGK PFR6Q are the oem plug, that's all i can contribute!

You'll get all sorts of answers to this - suggest you just pick one set and if they don't work so well on your car try something else.

Most either upgrade to the NGK BKR7E (gapped to .028 in) or the other option is Denso Iridiums, the IK20 (cheaper) or VK20 (expensive), not sure what they need to be gapped to though.

Ok cool thanks, was that a type error - gapped to 0.28?

Sorry yeah that should have been 0.028 inches or just over 0.7mm (original post now edited)

Just put a set of these in mine, about £26 odd from Euro car parts (with the 25% discount).

I used DENSO IK20 When I had my MK 1 had no running problems and the torque setting is 30NM

Nothing wrong with OEM plugs.

Had NGK V-Line for allmost 3 years...very good.

The engine starts very good these days with -17 deg ,and the battery is a bit weak.

x2 on that one. Mine with my stage one map have been perfect. :)

That's cheap I'm sure they used to be 6 or 7 quid each.

trouble is they will need regularly replaced (prob annually)

the oem ones VAG say will last for 40k (if you believe them)

But then again, they're almost quarter of the price. I've had a set of BKR6E's in for nearly two years and not had one misfire whatsoever.

check ebay - i got my last set for under £20 for 4 oem plugs - worth it imo as saves hassle changing them every year

Just use the correct plugs for the engine....

NGK PFR6Q gapped to 0.7mm

Instead of using a torque wrench, you can use tightening angles if you want (180-240 degrees for our plugs).

Here's the guide: http://www.ngk-spark.../q18/index.html

I opted for the BKR7E's but I am on LPG so going one plug colder was necessary anyway, and I am gapped down to 0.028 as well. I used to get all sorts of missfire problems and for a time I did worry that I had a cylinder on the way out, but since switching when it starts to suffer from missfire under high boost I just regap and all OK again :D

Hi mate first time I been on in a while, have you done this yet? If not, the octi deffo doesn't need them as the ones in there only have 1500 miles on there!

Hello mate. Hope your keeping well? Cheers for the heads up. I'll put the cash towards new rear pads and discs instead then.

Cheers
