NOS octane booster

Featured Replies

anyone tried it? heard some good things but unsure whether its worth a try

Yeah i have got some ready to go in my car. It was bought for me by a chemist m8 at oxford uni so it could well be very good :) Apparently someone at his uni forumlates 105ron petrol then adds this to make it 108ron and puts it in his lotus esprit V8

:D

sounds good, the bottle claims upto 7 octane gain, but obviously depends on many things

Yes, but is an increase of 7 octane actually going to make any difference? Have you had your engine's compression ratio increased, or had it remapped for silly boost pressures?

Remember, octane rating only tells you how resistant your fuel/engine combination is to detonation; if you don't get detonation with 97 octane super unleaded (or 95 octane regular unleaded) then it won't make a blind bit of difference if you use 100, 105, 110, or whatever octane fuel.

not sure if i agree with you there, if your right then howcome average cars gain from optimax over regular unleaded?

I agree for normal remaps but with revo the timing is adjustable and so there's very clear gains. GaryM used Millers CVL Turbo at an RR day, on timing 6 he got 235bhp, on timing 9 he got 245bhp.

"Average" cars don't benefit, except possibly from the additional detergents and a healthy dose of snake oil.

Hi

If your car has a knock sensing engine management system, it will advance the timing to maximise the peak effective pressure. In a naturally aspirated engine, this can make quite significant gains to drivability, in a turbo engine, you can gain more advantage because the timing is usually more retarded and the octane increase lets you run it closer to optimal.

Check out EVO magazines recent fuel test to see what differences fuels made.

Stick two of em, you might get the jump on the wrx...btw, thats not a std wrx on the airfield, or I've chased down many a spannered wrx's. Was in awe bengie...

I found it made the car run smoother but perhaps not quicker....haven't tried it since IHI.....have been contemplating some Millers though as it's cheaper.

Colin..... The WRX is totally standard. Its only done about 5000 miles. No remap or PPP, standard filters and exhaust etc...

maybe its just down to my shagged turbo then?

Well blow me down...I've chased a tuned scooby round anglesey and was frequently held up by it...it would always get a small jump on the exits owing to traction, and as such he though he was faster, but come every bend and braking point I was nailed to it's ****.

Not actually tried chasing one down to the point of rubbing on roads, but I was surprised at that vid.

And there is a vid of Paul doing the same to an sti around anglesey.

/Paul can you post it ;)

Octane booster, I use two in the tank pre track day, then one cleaner every 2-3 months and a few in the boot if away and running shonky 95 from "those" garages. I don't do it for more power, more as a helper for running high rpm all day long. The engine will retard anyway if it senses danger.

A think a 30mph rolling start would be interesting to see/video.

got NOS Racing formula in car just now as got free bottle from work,

noticed it pickes up better and a little smoother even with opti in tank
