The white worm returns

Featured Replies

Had Skoda rear badge replaced about 6 months ago and have been keeping it very clean since.

Inspite of this the 'white worm' effect has started to return. (cloudy white deterioration inside the badge outer finish).

I though this issue would have been resolved by now....It appears not.

Another minor niggling warranty issue to resolve.

Anyone else STILL having this issue?

My originals have it but VW/Skoda Ireland won't replace then under warranty

This is nothing new unfortunately VW and Skoda have been suffering whiteworm for as long as I can remember

Mine changed under warranty first occasion...just shows how consistant Skoda is with warranty...

As it has returned will expect it to be changed again under warranty.

Mine were replaced under warranty on Scarlets service last week with no problem.

New tailgate badge here too @ first service last week!

We call it 'white worm' - SUK call it 'Delamination' emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Mine was replaced under warranty last summer, no quibbles.

I would have thought that you should be able to claim a warranty fix for this no matter which country you do it from.

If they are not playing ball, take a laptop in to the dealer and show him this thread and the other one from last year containing all the posts from those who had the badge replaced under warranty.

I reckon there is no way in heck they can then refuse you?

If they still do then I suggest a strongly worded letter to SUK MD

Yup, same here with my tailgate badge.

white worm all around the outer edge, must get it replaced when my service is due in a few thousand.

The nasty little red clip above the grill that holds the bonnet stay down has snapped as well, so using a twisty bag tie. :(

How is the water getting into the badges---would it be worth painting a bit of waxoil on the back to waterproof the things so they last a bit longer?

....But that's treating the symptoms - not the disease!

It's up to Skoda to sort their suppliers out!

It doesn't look like they are going to do anything about it, anytime soon--and this problem has been going on for years!

So what do you do, when you have the problem out of warranty, or the dealer refuses to replace them at any time? I think you would get a bit peed off buying something as daft as a badge every couple of years if you are car proud

A friend who gas a 10 plate Yeti has the same problem and is going to get them replaced at the next service--I suspect that not too many people bother and if done out of warranty Skoda are quite happy to take your cash. :(

The decision about whether to replace at own cost only becomes relevant when the 3 year warranty ends - in the meantime the more people that complain, the more likely Skoda are to do something about it?

And to me a 'white wormed' badge detracts from my ownership satisfaction - so I for one will be replacing them out of warranty!

We're only talking about a few quid but ETTO ;)

Mine's normally so dirty you can't tell whether it is suffering or not!

Er ... +1

  • 3 weeks later...

Just picked the yeti up after its first service (not at supplying dealer). Mentioned the white worm problem when he phoned to say it was ready. He checked (all four wheels + bonnet + tailgate) while I was on the way to them & confirmed he has ordered new badges under warranty & will ring me when they're in. Will be fitted FOC.

My beast is 9 months old.

My 2010 (only had it a few weeks) has a bit on the front badge - will ask Allams about it when I take it in to get a new heated front seat element at some point this week.

My badge has been replaced a few times, first was under warranty one said they couldn't do it, on the strengh of this refusal I went elsewhere, and they did it whilst I was booking for a service lol

In the end that dealer replaced the clutch and flywheel during the service under warranty !!

I had mine replaced last year and so far its looks fine.

If the whiteworm comes back I would probably wait for the new Skoda badges and buy those or even buy one from Superskoda.
