Dash Rattles

Featured Replies

Hi, How do you remove the "moustache" panel below the instruments as this is a source of one of my rattles, but I'm starting to think I might have a go at fixing it myself as after a day at the dealers, my rattles are exactly the same! I've seen other folk on here have pointed to this area as a rattle source too. My other one is a transient buzz as engine revs rise & fall that seems to originate around the glove box or maybe even the lower forward passenger door area. Does anyone else have similar issues? Cheers.

Does this sound familiar?

HI, well after another visit to the dealers, the transient Buzz has gone, apparently it was a loose clip on the clutch cable/pipework (is the clutch hydraulic or cable operated on a 170tdi 4x4 -not had a close enough look yet) but the moustache rattle has returned. I've since had a go myself (it's only held on with spring clips - it just pulls off towards the steering wheel) but although i can get rid of it for a couple of days, it returns. It could also be the silver trim strip on the dash covering the light swiches, or the interaction between the two. Further investigation required!

I have a problem with the front passenger seat on mine, if I hold the back of the seat with my arm while I'm driving I can make te rattle stop, I think it must just be a cable or something hitting against the metal frame of the chair.

I should look into it really but I can't be bothered so I've just been turning the music up lol.

Me too. I seem to get an endless stream of noise from that direction on some journeys, on other journeys there's no problem. Seems to correlate with the presence or otherwise of SWMBO. Like you, I just turn up the music. :giggle:

Yes we get a rattle/creak from the speedo area especially when it's colder.

Don't normally hear it because the radios on,but SWMBO turns the radio off .......

Bingo! the same thing has started on my passenger seat-I find if I adjust the back rest the noise goes but comes back a few days later. As you say its a cable chattering against the frame. Will monitor the problem.

I find the noise from my passenger seat is more of a low pitched whine rather than a rattle.

I get tinnitus in my left ear. But it could be the wife.

I got the no-cost option of selective hearing - works well for me.

I just remove my 'harkers' :)

Well, my moustache rattle was successfully sorted by the dealer on go 3, & I've done at least 10k since then with no re-occurence. I've now got a loud stereo inducing rattle on the front passenger door that they can't sort, but I now know what it is. It's the silver "sound system" badge on the mid-range speaker of the optional "big speaker" pack so that can be fixed on the service next month. It only occurs with the engine running because of the amp output "ramping up". (They've had a go already, & when I got the car back, I found they had "fixed it" by turning the bloody bass down on the stereo!! Cheeky *******!) I want it doing properly next time! Speakers definitely worth the money though.

+1 for the speakers.

The door trim is cheap on the Skoda compared to VW, and does rattle a bit. It is the price we pay for buying 'cheap' good value cars.

Like the sound insulation. Almost non-existent compared to VW.

Try a bit of Blutack on the offending object.

I've found another 'dash rattle' source, well my dealer did.

After a day or 2 of ownership I got an annoying rattle coming from around the gear stick area. It was almost completely constant. I had the chance to take it to my dealer today where the service manager diagnosed it and fixed it himself in about 10 minutes. He said it was coming from the exhaust flange underneath the car. He simply threw it up on the hoist unbolted it and bolted all back up again. Dash rattle gone. Yeti completely quiet inside now.

Snowpup just developed a dash rattle, emirate g on drivers side towards windscreen. Only at low revs, especially idling in D1 before Iull away. Fine under power. So bl**dy annoying. Guess it's off to local dealer to resolve. Otherwise, 3weeks, 2k miles and brilliant car with 2 adults, 3 border collies and whole bunch of kit doing Christmas in UK.

Mm, Cody, sounds suspiciously like the famous moustache rattle you've got there!

I have the same problem for over a year since delivered new. Please let me know after you have it fixed. Thanks a lot.

Over the last few days I have noticed a buzz/rattle which seems to come from the centre air vent area on the dash.

If I push on the panel that holds the hazard warning switch it quietens but can't stop it completely.

Only noticeable with the stereo low so, like others, I just turn the volume up.

I guess it's down to the lower temperatures we've been having lately.

Will mention it to the dealer on the next service as I don't think it warrants a special visit.
