Vauxhall corsa vxr

Featured Replies

an by myself on 2 previous occasions one including a artic vxr which supposedly has "209" bhp(pile of p**h).

also faster than a 1.6 sri with a vxr turbo and remap making a proven 182bhp : ) and also a teg type R :giggle:

although as soon as theres a corner involved the VRS is punted aside.

VXRs are mainly for kiddies with rich daddys....or at least the majority of the owners i know are and i had a look on their forum once and its all 19 year olds that cant spell thinking a dump valve adds 500000000000000bhp

How did you find the car when you drove it?

The Fabia never proved this, it was the lighter Polo GTI that was used in the test.

Also it was the 190ps std VXR. The 'Berg edition VXR has the extra 10hp, improved chassis, less weight and LSD. Put simply the fabia would get its pants pulled well and truly down on a track.

For instance the Fabia is 2-3 seconds a lap slower than the Polo GTI around track (prob combo of skinnier tires, 50kg heavier and softer suspension/older chassis) And the Clio Rs and 'berg VXR would smash the Polo GTI on track as well.

Thats std vs standard. Modded vs modded it would be a different story i think.

hence the words "STRAIGHT LINE" in my post, and I know it was a polo GTI, similar enough for me :wonder:

Pretty brutal actualy was rock hard, poor inside and it had some fancy factory exhaust system on it that was unbearable on the motorway

How ever it was comfy to sit in with the engine turned off and my eyes closed

Still reckon it would get its pants pulled down on the straights as well.

Would i buy a VXR corsa though....NO CHANCE

so evos test is wrong then but your 'opinion' is right?

I like the interior..More modern looking than the Fabia. The Recaro seats are very comfy and the driving position is nigh on perfect

Throttle response is excellent and I noticed no appreciable lag

The suspension is hard but never crashy..It corners far better than the Fabia and grip is damned good too.

All in all..I'd have one

BUT

The boot is stupid..silly split in it

The rear seat access is not easy

The bodywork feels very flimsy compared to a VAG offering

Not really about my opinion because EVOs review is irrelevant.

It isnt testing the nurburgring VXR of which this thread is talking about, it is testing the std VXR which is of course slower. It isnt testing a Fabia vRS, it is testing a lighter and slightly faster polo GTI.

The std VXR is slower, less powerful and has an open differential. The Berg edition VXR has 10hp more 'peak' - midrange gains are allegedly alot more than 10hp(just like when you map a 1.4TSI), its also slightly lighter and has a limited slip differential which will help with traction of the mark ALOT.

So we can agree that we would both rather have the VRS for better all roundness on general road use and superior VAG quality..... Which im sure was the vrss intended selling points : )

But have to say those recaros are fantastic

My sister loves hers

But have to say those recaros are fantastic

That is 100% an option i would have ticked

Same without a doubt, defo going to look at getting a set of recaros after bwing in a vxr once im fully qualified and on good money. The ones out the golf/scirroco R are fantastic aswell but there an expensive option if i mind right

It's a completely different car.

It will eventually come down to "well my modified VRS will muller a VXR"

The Fabia is nice at what it does, and that's raise a few more eyebrows for the badge.

The Corsa does look better inside & out and goes better than the Fabia. It's more focused to be a Hot hatch, something the VRS clearly isn't.

Yes, sort the suspension and give it more power but then you're defeating the point of our car.

If Skoda would have (sorry, BEEN allowed to) sort the VRS like the S2000 then we'd have a genuine Hot hatch and something to genuinely challenge the likes of the Clio 200 cup and possibly set a new bench mark.

Who knows, the next VRS could be that car. Fingers crossed because there's a big market out there for hot hatches. Final word, if I didn'd need an auto, it wouldn't have been the VRS for me.

I dont think its something VAG will ever do tbh. Its a shame IMO.

I think we can all agree that the vRS punches well above it's weight and the last one did too. Before I bought my vRS I test drove all the rivals and decided on the vRS being better overall than the others and does everything that I want it to.There's more factors to consider than just "track pace". Here's how I came to my decision based on what I actually test drove.

Renault Clio RS200 - Sure the Clio will beat it on a track and is fun to drive but isn't as well made, costs more, loses more, worse on fuel and costs more to tax. Also if you want it harder to tune.

VW Polo GTI - The Polo is "better" but costs a few grand more and that's without the No VAT offer.

Seat Ibiza Cupra - Only came as a 3dr so didn't bother.

Different class of cars (before anyone says) but I gave them a go anyway.

Mazda 3 MPS - Almost swayed me but head over-ruled heart. More than I wanted to spend, drinks fuel, more to insure and tax but seriously quick!

Golf GTI Mk6 DSG - Was £24k without options but a very nice car. Too much for me though especially when pace wise it wasn't far off the Fabia.

Honda Civic Type-R GT - HATED IT! Sounded good in VTEC but was uncomfy and too hardcore. Didn't feel fun at all.

I'm more than happy with the vRS and as an Estate is practical too. It's fun to drive and on Welsh twisty roads I've always found it's got plenty of grip and never found me wanting much more. It's more than adequate imo. When I first had it I took it on a route I know and my confidence built with it quite quickly, found myself covering ground quicker than I have in other cars and part of the run involved a stretch I took the Clio on when I tested it and the speeds were pretty much the same. I love it every time I take it for a good spin. If I want more power I can have it and at most I'll add the Skoda lowering kit but that's it.

vRS forever for me a wolf in sheeps clothing

Vxr = Chav

Clio = Momo glove wearers only

Seat FR = MPG watcher

Swift sport = Stick to making motorbikes

Civic type R = Kamikaze car

Golf gti = Sounds like a golf advert

Citroen ds3 = Inspector clouseau

love the clio comment mate :D

nice car but not too keen on vauxhalls and the 22k price tag for the new vxr is a bit steep

It's too "boy racer" looking and for what it is (a souped up Corsa) it's too expensive.

i bought the vrs coz it was nippy, quite economical if you want it to be, nice auto box and most of all, was a price i could afford

at the end of the day who buys new vauxhalls anyways, there like fords and lose too much money over a very short period of time. whether its better or not is irrelevant, a ferrari is better but that costs more too. as it currently stands i couldnt have bought a better car for the money i paid

think you aimed it up very well, there are plenty of cars better than the vrs, but they are either more expensive or older. For me I wanted a 4 door car new or nearly new that was also fun. For the price nothing else compares

Even the people reviewing them are... no comment

is "VXR" the equivalent to "OPC" for the rest of Europe?
