What have people chopped their VRS in for

Featured Replies

I've just won myself a new job, so naturally the first thing that comes to mind is the possibility a new car...

I do get slight pangs of sadness whenever I think about parting with the Fabia, but the tempation is still there. I'd like to gauge what people's experiences are of selling up and moving on, and whether they're glad they did, or wish they hadn't.

I don't want to go mad as I'll still have a reasonable commute, so no V8 gas guzzlers, and I'm still of the mentality that buying a brand new car is a mugs game, so max budget of ~£8k.

Current contenders are:

Megane R26

Mazda 3 MPS

Mk1 TT (bit gay)

Focus ST (bit chavvy/thirsty?)

Corolla T sport compressor

BMW 330 (high milage at that price)

What is the audience's opinion?

Berlingo multispace is what will follow for me..

Edited by Lee Rich

Iv swapped mine in for a corsa for the time being before i go away but out of that list id wittle it down to the following

Mazda 3 MPS - Something a bit different as the fabia vRS is

TT - Quality grip and a good car

3 series - Would have to be a diesel :) how about a 325d? great cars

How about a diesel Audi such as an A3 tdi sline?

Your choice :)

Elliott

I.d go for the Vauxhall Astra 888 diesel, a classic Mini or a Triumph GT6. Depending on where I'm working.

Mazda 3 or 5 mps for me as it was a tossup between them and the fabia anyway. Or possibly a I series coupe diesel

I chopped this in:

Honestly?

I think keep the Fabia (it is a great car), and always better the devil you know.

Then perhaps get a toy / weekend car - anything you like

And Insanity - a classic mini as a daily driver? You must be mad!! Been there, done that - never again.

I bought a Nissan GT-R R35 and kept the Fabia.

And I tell you what, it's a flippin good job I did too.

Sure, there are faster things out there, but the Fabia is a bit old fashioned and fun to drive.

You have to work it, grab it by the neck and throw it about.

It's OK having flappy paddles, 600-odd bhp and being able to blow 911s into the middle of next week if they like it or not, but for the actual fun of driving the Fabia is fun at legal speeds, where a lot of faster more refined cars are fun at higher speeds.

People need to decide what's better, outright speed or fun.

It's easy to sell the Fabia and buy something faster, but I'm not sure that means it's more fun.

Typical reaction is to like what you've bought because it's yours and convince yourself it's better.

But to be honest if I could only have my 260bhp Fabia or the GT-R I'd keep the Fabia.

It's slower, less refined and harder work to drive.

But it's a lot of fun, probably about the same in fact. Just with less G-force.

Speed does not equal fun.

Why not keep the Fabia and buy a motorbike...

^^ I'm with bossfox. I prefer a good handling fun car than power. That's why I'm looking into a Suzuki swift sport.

Totally agree with Richard

Lots of this type of discussion recently too what with Top Gear and the thread on Pistonheads.

+1!

One of the reasons (aside from going from ~10k -24K miles a year) why I got rid of my RX-8. Excellent as it was, the Polo is more fun. So I sold the RX-8, got a cheap to run Golf and got the Polo insured again. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Out of that list I'd go for the BMW or the R26 (never having driven none of them! emoticon-0140-rofl.gif)

Sold the MK1 vRS for a MK2 vRS :)

I'd probably go for either an octavia vrs or maybe a nicely spec'd golf gt 170 :S it's a hard one. I do like the meganne r26 thou! ;)

Was secretly hoping everyone would come on and say they've had one of the above and wished they'd kept the fabia, some of you have, which is encouraging.

Don't want a bike, the girlfriend is the biker, and whilst I'm a big fan of mountain bikes, I've never fancied an engined one...

As for hilarity, I also possess this:

Puma engined fiesta stripped bare for track purposes.

Its just the new job means affordability of motoring just significantly increased, and as always, temptation is tugging at my wallet for something a bit more angry and petrol fuelled, just worried I'd regret it in 6 months...

Get a quadbike like me :-) in garage till summer, great for tootling around on and having a hoot. I use works van so vrs is hardly used and like i say quad for fun. And i'm not a chav who rides like an idiot, everyone laughed when i boufht it but in summer great fun. Or get a nice polo g40 as a second car as i loved mine and wish id kept it lol

Why not keep the Fabia and buy a motorbike...

This is the option for me. ;)

Hopefully next month!

Golf gti 2.0 turbo it would be for me just a remap will see 270 bhp, that's some serious fun but out of your list I'd go with the megane

For that money I'd be considering an S3, I think there is even a few Mk2's out there for about £8k.

Out of that list it would have to be the 330 without a doubt though the R26 is nice . . . .

How does a Scirocco TDI compare to a vRS MKI?

Get a new cheapy cheerful diesel car to get to work, something like a Golf GT TDI. Keep Fabia and soup that mother 6 ways from Sunday.

Not with a K03, no chance lol.

I'm with Bossfox on this too........

As for the SSS....my mate chopped his highly tuned Scooby P1 for a SSS in black!!!!......loves it....much cheaper to run and less chance of loosing his licence just to enjoy it!!!!... B)
