For that money I'd be considering an S3, I think there is even a few Mk2's out there for about £8k.

Out of that list it would have to be the 330 without a doubt though the R26 is nice . . . .

I agree with this comment! would definately go for an S3, have always wanted one but have never had the money.

They are quick and im sure handle very well not to mention the good looks... For some reason i seem to like the look of the old 225bhp model.

If i had the money then this would be my next car

How does a Scirocco TDI compare to a vRS MKI?

Very nicely - on my short list - but you won't get one for the £8k budget being quoted.

I changed in for a Saab 9-3 aero 57 plate so much better, as good handling as it has all the tech that the fabia lacks, the performance is slightly better but bot really noticeable, better nicer to drive and so comfy!

Friggerpants the Mk5 golf tfsi can achieve between 240-270 brake with just a remap from what i have been told if I'm wrong I stand corrected I can only go on info I have been told

One of my best friends and the guy who I bought my Skoda's lift sharing buddy both have 2.0l Golf GTI's, mk5's, and both just have a map (One from Stealth, one from Rev)

Both are circa 240bhp.

Golf MK5 and Octavia 2 vRS have KO3S or KO4 turbo's don't they? - If so good for 240bhp ish surely?

Try a mk5 golf gt 1.4 tsi

170bhp (maps to 210bhp)

Cheap tax

40 mpg

Lovely supercharger sound

I was in the same predicament and I chose the megane. (blatant photo whoring)

I've not looked back. As much as I loved the Fabia for the great fuel and speed etc I really didn't require it anymore. I hardly drive my Fabia so wasn't reaping the benefits of the diesel so thought I'd buy a thirsty machine lol.

Ben (@shark) has tinkered with it and should be sitting between 260-270bhp with alot of torque.

My other main option was the 3 MPS but after looking at them I decided they were bland and boring and would need wheels etc to make it look decent.

My mate just bought a Vauxhall VXR with 6.2l v8 engine, bloody mental

But it made me realise with his 15mpg max how good I have it with the Fabia diesel if you forgive the latest diesel prices at least ...

If I was to replace I would seriously struggle to put a petrol on the top of my list which is why the mkII was a bit of a damp squibb option for me, albeit its tax bracket and petrol consumption are far from poor.

I would contemplate it as replacement for my car though, because there isn't that much in an affordable bracket to please me at the moment

I'd like to hold out until they release the mission l perhaps with it hopefully on a tidy budget and decent engine options...although its a long time to wait and in the meanwhile there are lots of other choices.

I wouldn't rule out an Octavia, I'm sure if not the VRS diesel or petrol, even the 1.8 TSi is a good proposition.

I also like the idea of the Yeti if they managed to get it on one of the deals all the other models have been expericing but I doubt it with its popularity and high price at the moment. (again preferably diesel and one of the higher performing ones).

As for other cars I also like the Ford Kuga.

To be honest I'm not inspired by any of the suggested contenders in the list above, closest for me would be the Ford but for value i'd probably go the Fabia II as again its petrol and the Fabia is just a cheaper/more sensible proposition especially with such offers as VAT around, but I'm unlikely to change at the moment whilst I'm still running.

There are unmentioned models which are offered in hot form, such as Citroens but I wouldn't touch with a soiled stick

Oh and indeed as a motorcyclist (but getting older and less keen on spinning up tyres so might hang up my leathers in the future)

it would be difficult to satify me in performance terms on a car as it would never match my experience on the bike and would cost a good deal to do so. I think with the current trends unlike my mate, I'd certainly try to remain sensible with my buying options unless I get a better job or hit the lottery !

I traded mine in for the Lexus IS300 limited edition i still have now. Was only supposed to be a temporary 6 month thing and that was 15 months ago!!!! It'll be going before June and we'll hopefully then be a two Skoda family again.

Reason i traded mine in was the fact it needed around a grands worth of work doing on it just at the time i had always planned on getting rid of it and the Seat dealer i got the Lexus from gave me a great part ex price on the vRS.

Cheers

Dave.

I am looking at a mk5 golf gti, love them and my mates have got them too with a remap think it is about 254bhp

Exactly what I'll be looking at when I eventually want to get rid of the Fabia.

Hopefully be then Edition 30s will have come down to my sort of budget :)

Much easier to find a specced up Golf with things like sat nav, xenons and heated seats than a Fabia

My 53 plate Corrida Red VRS went for a 2010 Octy Greenline 1 and I haven't looked back since. I do 26000 miles a year, had a riduculous deal on the Octy and the cruise/bolero/general size & comfort upgrade was to good to turn down.

Only a 55 litre tank but had just over 500 miles to half a tank last week with both town & motorway driving. It's at least 20-25 mpg better than the Fabia in all conditions. Made up with it.

I was in the same predicament and I chose the megane.

That is tidy; is that a cupra R splitter too?

How does it compare to the fabia in everyday terms?

Mk5 Golfs are ok, but not massively inspiring to look at and I'm not a fan of Octavias if I'm being honest.

Its nice to see a contrast of trade-ins; some going more economical, some not so. The difference in economy may be a little upsetting, but if you can't waste money on cars when your young(ish) when can you do it...

I've been considering this because my brother is "always" considering changing his Ibiza FR.

Best I can come up with is an Audi A3 PD140 Quattro. Then slightly breath on it. :)

Reasons are...

An Audi A3 is a small step up in car size

4WD!

The PD engines seem better on fuel than others of similar size

The 2.0 16V has potential for lots of power

PD140 doesn't have a DPF

PD140 has Bosch solenoid injectors

Have a look at Darkside's Jetta for tuning potential.

Everyday IMO if u rule out fuel it's better. More comfortable bigger boot bigger inside looks better better build quality but the downside is the fuel isn't 40mpg I get 28mpg with a shark map. And yes it is a cupra R it was on when I got it

This any good? I dont have one, but they look good apart from the usual niggles.

Megans are cack, horrendous reliability issues

And they hold their price like the titanic... Buy now and in 3 years it will be worth two rolls of sheep ****e and a deed dug!!!

Maybe, but on the plus side (if the Clio 197 is anything to go by), more fun than a vRS.

Not true. The Renault sport brand was built in a different factory to all other renaults and it's common known that they aren't as bad as the standard renaults.

Have you ever had one? Too many people just listen to Internet stories

I've got to admit, with the miles I do, I have always wondered about the dci version.

No issues with yours then Tas? The one I drove a couple of years back had a horrid sloppy gearbox. Would still be tempted to try another though. I like them.

True.

Only Renault I ever had experience of was a 2005 Megane and it was very cheap and nasty inside. Looked built to a budget price.

If the sport versions are made to better standards in a different factory that can only go in their favour.
