Hi everyone,

Has anybodys DRL's fallen apart??

I got in the car earlier on and started in and as it was dark I noticed that only one DRL seemed to be on. I got out and had a look and my drirvers side DRL was off, infact, it wasnt even there! At first I thought someone had somehow nicked it but upon closer inspection with a torch the actual LED unit had dropped out of the glass lens housing and fallen back into the bumper.

As it was -2*C and I was by the sea in Norfolk with what felt like a huuricane blowing in from the sea I didn't stop to have a go at fixing it.

Now I'm back home and in the garage I had another look with a more powerful torch and it looked like one of the plastic retaining rings which holds the LED unit into the lens has broken off. I popped out the plastic trim round the lamp, removed the 3 screws which hold the lens in and had a look - indeed the plastic retaining ring had broken allowing the LED unit to drop back and then fall face down, inside the bumper.

I shall get it straight to the dealer tomorrow to get it looked at and fixed under warranty. I am slightly worried they will just replace the lens though and not the LED unit which after 130 miles has picked up some damage and scratches to the chrome finish.

Hopefully they will replace the unit as a whole but I will report back with what happens.

Has anyone else had this happen though?? I haven't had an accident, nothing has hit the front as far as I know, certainly no damage to the bumper or to the glass DRL lens so I'm just wondering whether this is a common fault?

Not happened on mine. I have had a quick check of mine and everything seems secure (It has been a year though so it would have gone before now if there was an issue)

I would hope the whole unit will be replaced under warrenty. let us know how you get on!

I would bet that someone has hit it when parked.

Got it down to the dealers a few mins ago and they have agreed to replace the whole unit under warranty.

There was some question as to why it happened at first as it was the first one they had seen like it. They checked for damage to make sure nobody had hit the car. The technician then went away checked with his manager and they then agreed to replace the whole thing under warranty.

Hopefully the part should be in on Wednesday - in the mean time I am driving round with one DRL/sidelight which looks a bit strange :think:

Here is the broken part anyway. Theres absolutely no damamge to the front lens and no damage to any area of the bumper so why it has broken I don't know - maybe a manufacturing defect??

In order to avoid looking like a pirate, you can just turn the DRLs off temporarily, from the switch on the fuse panel, I guess headlights are still working ok...

Annoyingly I can't turn the DRL's off :(

On newer vRS's, well, mine anyway, all the switch does is either dim them or make them fully bright. If I switch the switch the DRL's, or the DRL that's left dims to sidelight brightness and stays that way. I can't turn it off at all. It's always been this way since I had the car. At least the headlights are ok like you say.
