Brim To Brim Pleasent Surprise

Featured Replies

Just did the first brim to brim mpg calculation that I've done in years.

Comp is showing 34.7mpg as the long term average.

Did it today and got 37.5mpg which I'm quite chuffed with. Ok I've done nothing but commute on this tank so I've been taking it easy but knowing the comps are renound for under reading I was expecting 35 or lower..

Pretty decent, what you filling up with?

Don't brim the tank!!

You will end up needing to replace at best the breather pipe to the charcoal cannister (circa £9 from a stealer) or at worst a new charcoal cannister (Circa £95 from a stealer)

I used to brim the tank on my previous vRS and had to replace the breather pipe on the top.

Fill it up but once the pump stops flowing with the nozzle in, let it settle for a few secs and then continue till it stops again. Do this a couple more times but DON'T allow the fuel to flow past the flap in which you push the nozzle past.

For a moment I thought this thread was referring to our friend from Lincoln.

Tesco Momentum.

I too, did a mpg test this week on my commute to work, 50 miles one way on country roads, rarely going above 60 MPH apart from the dual carrigeway for about a mile at Kings Lynn. I have not hung about, overtaking lorries etc but if they have been doing 50MPH I've just stuck it out as I would have done in the mazda due to not having the power for confident multi-overtaking manoevers! I filled with tesco momentum, filled til it clicked and then filled to the nearest full pound. followed the same routine this morning when refilling. I achieved 386 miles from 43.94 litres which works out at roughly 39.94 MPG!

Before everyone starts to take the "Mikey", I did this to prove to the wife that the Skoda is as economical as the Mazda 6 1.8 it has replaced! Point proved, time open that throttle a little bit more

I was pretty impressed getting 37mpg on a drive from Newcastle to Blackpool on Tuesday. I was taking it steady though and didn't go much above 80. Only got 32mpg on way back yesterday though.

I took a trip to cornwall in mine last year, left Newport (wales) with a full tank, drove down to Cornwall fully loaded, used it over the weekend and did the return trip fully loaded all on 1 tank of fuel.

I think the trip at the end was 424 miles, and I had 30 miles left according to trip computer

Its not bad on fuel at all if you drive it nice

Steve

ps - Started keeping a check with fuelly after that run, average at the moment 31.4mpg

Best run came in at 38mpg (Heathrow run....)

Most of my mileage is short runs to work, mixed conditions

Being a sad anorak type, I keep a fill to fill log. My journeys are mostly a commute near West London and occasional business trip.

MPG on 95 octane averaged 31.23 (cost per mile 19.61p) over 3 months (autumn/winter)

MPG on Tesco Momentum 34.45 (cost per mile 18.19p) over 2 months (winter)

I expect the mpg to improve in the spring, however, it may not as the roads get dryer and my right foot gets tempted down.

I recently changed my route to work opting for the longer smoother route as there is no stop start traffic...

I now get 35mpg as opposed to the 29.4mpg I was usually seeing on the more direct route, which is always clogged up with the rest of the rat race, usually consisting of 5 miles of 65mph A road and 2 miles of stop/start torment.

Got to admit I'm chuffed with the result 6mpg isn't to be sniffed at

We went from godalming in surrey to woodbridge. 60 miles pottering short journies and 75 mile into south london and back with quite heavy traffic. In all 430 miles.

Average of measured 37.2

We kept to 70 or whatever speed limit was in force.

Its stage 1 shark remap too
