Time to get the winter tyres off?

Featured Replies

For the past few days its been at least 9 degrees and my winter tyres are suffering big time, it feels like im driving on toffee!

Iv got my standard vRS alloys go back on for now (till the new ones have been powder coated) and they will do for now.

I didt want to change them for at least another month but the winter tyres are wearing very quickly, am i the only one here or anyone else changing back over?

Just checked the weather and apparently going to 16degrees tomorrow! And no lower then 12 degrees for the rest of the week knowing my luck as soon as i get my alloys back on it will snow!

I changed back last Sunday!

I`v not got winter tyres but i`v noticed my prada`s being nice and grippy today! Nice bit of sunshine.

If they are wearing quicker then i`d whip them off personally.

I was out in the car about half hour ago, the car felt really unsteady and unsure of itself, pulled over just to make sure all was well, turns out the rears are pretty much on the limit and the front treds are starting to feather, a sure sign of rapid wear!

Guess who pulls up behind me to see what the crack is..the cops!

(theres me thinking, crap! dont look at the rears!) but thankfully they were nice and he started telling me how their Ranger is on winters and it feels horrible to drive atm, checked the front tyre (which are healthy enough) and told me to take it steady..phew!

I thought you had only just put them on? Weren't they new? Mine show barely any signs of wear!

I didn't realise how bad the handling was until i put my SC2's back on....The lower profile obviously helps but the car feels much more steady and planted.

No i put my on in November, been on few months, the front ones are new, the rears are part worn but still had 5mm of tred.

The only thing is though, the alloys ill be putting on have the worst tyres on i have ever had, Yellowsea's :wonder: i had no intention of putting them back on, i was going to watch till about march time and put my new alloys on which have uniroyal rain sport 2's on

They could be better than the winters though!

my winters are wstill on, and I agree, not so good in these temps, but seriously, we could have 2 weeks of three foot of snow in march ;)

Mine will be changed back, end of march for WSM (it is warmer down south!)

It was +15c here yesterday, so my winters came off.

It felt noticably worse on corners.

Thinking of putting my slicks back on my bike, ( cycle cross tyres on) but waiting for the salt to go, mind you, two setts of wheels and it only takes 2 minutes to change them :D , going to gett another sett of wheels in April , so 3 pairs as I am now doing 34 miles a day cycling to work

Obviously your tyres are better in warm then my winter tyres are, coming off roundabouts and powering out of the corner (nothing racey just getting myself moving) the car displays some epic understeer.

On a roundabout the other night going to boyfriends, not really concentrating as i was not going fast and the roads were dead, front end let go completely, ESP snapped the front end back in but forgot about the back end, that swung out on a pendulum effect, i put the nose of the car into the slide to come off the roundabout facing forward and just ended up coming off abit wide, the look on my face would of been a picture, one of 'ok i was not expecting that to happen!'

From there on in i drive like miss daisy when the temp is above 7 degree's

Mine are coming off tomorrow, back to my T1R.

Car has been awful to drive over the past few days, squirming around all over the place.

Definitely easier to get LOOS though ;)

right this may really seem like a dumb question but just had a look under the car, wheres the jacking points? I can find the fronts, but over the rear i cant see anything that would look relatively stable

Edit; am i suppose to follow the little arrow things or are these for the scissor jacks on the sills?

I'm just a bit concerned it's a bit of a false spring, and we'll get a cold snap and snow in March, so they're staying on for the time being. I don't drive hard, but have noticed they don't feel quite as planted as usual. I can live with it though.

Only 30mins max to swap back if bad weather is forecast.

was it not -6 just 10 days or so ago?

mine will be staying on for a week or two yet...

Well March is only a week away so your not too early.

Just seen the forcast and only around 9 degrees up here tomorrow.

Mine has been slipping a bit on roundabouts latley and Im sure there is a lot of crap on the roads as we need some heavy rain to clean them down. But I do drive it hard and do a lot of miles. The other day I left Sheffield it was 12 degrees but in lancashire it was only 7. Mines a company car and will be changed in around 6-7 months so I will scrubb these right down before change.

Its 16 degrees here today, so the weather man was right, for once!

Keeping mine on for 2 or 3weeks yet , you can get some pretty nasty weather in March in this bit of the World

Just sodding typical!

for the past few nights it been about 9 degrees..now i have my winter tyres off it 4 degree! argh!

I am waiting to end of March. When switch from and to day light saving.

As a rule beginning of November to mid late March, so our two with winters will stay that way for at least 2 to 4 weeks more depending on how the weather pans out. Noticed though the Hankooks on our Yeti appear happier in the warmer temps than the Bridgestones on the Fabia.

Son's Fabia I HTP is running Goodyear Vector 4seasons which appear happy no matter what the weather throws at them :)

TP

I'll be keeping mine on until the end of March as there's still a good chance temperatures could drop again. A lot of my driving is between night hours of 10pm and 6am too, when the temperatures are lower anyway.

It dropped down the 3 degree last night and my all season crappy horrible tyres did just fine but im surprised at the fact that there is alot more road noise :wonder:

Cant wait to get the new alloys on though!
