Accelerator issue or something else

Featured Replies

My 56 Plated vRS, nice 52K miles.

On occasions the engine races away with itself 'very slightly'. Instead of ticking over at say 800 rpm it is more likely 1200 rpm. It is solved very easily by puting my foot under the accelerator and pulling it back towards me, the driver. Then fine for a day or so, then might do it again.

I took it down to my friendly local independent VAG dealer who says most likely it is simply a fault with the pedal. Nothing is catching on the pedal with the carpet. It is an electronic accelerator. However, he is not 100% sure on this. No other faults could be found.

The cost of a replacement pedal is around £75, plus an hours labour. I am reluctant to shell out on that if after fitting same I have the same issue ?

Has anyone else had similar issue ? I am told there are lots of connections at the top of the pedal and lots of little springs ?

Thoughts please ?

If it's not spring related ... You can try to reset the accelerator pedal.

Ignition on

Foot hard down 30 seconds

Lift of foot - ignition off..

I have seen this fault many times, its always been the pedal. Its relatively straightforward to replace. Its 3x10mm nuts on the pedal unit and the wiring connector. Its easier to get to the nuts if you remove the lower dash trim first.

When you say Ignition on, i assume you dont mean the car running?

Ignition ON

NOT engine on ..
