What is a remapped VRS as quick as

Featured Replies

I beat an RX8 recently, whether he knew how to drive was a different story but he was definitely trying.

Edit: Sorry forgot to mention mine is standard, so remapped he would have been destroyed.

I just got rid of an RX-8 for a Golf PD150 (nearly the same weight as a Fabia, more power).

I'd say the '8 was faster if it was in it's power band - 7.5k rmp+. In the mid range, it was rubbish. 156lb/ft of nothingness! (That's the 231, the 192 is 157lb/ft I think) Had to drop to 3rd/4th gear on the motorway if you wanted to pull into a small gap!

More fun for sure though!

I do love it how these topics are an opportunity to show rivalry against the genuine Jap hot hatches...

Well.. jap cars beauty is in the noise and working to achieve those ponies is what its about (as well as taking it apart is like lego :D). If they had a jap version equivalent with economy and insurance (i.e. 1.8ltr fabia sized petrol at high revving 150-160bhp with similar insurance bracket) i would've preferred that :)

Thats why this new ft86 sits quite comfortably into an "economically sound toy" to own. It will do very well so long as the insurance isn't going to be sky high.

my remapped fabia is definitely quicker than my Ibiza - but then with 60 more BHP it bloody well should be

that said it's a hell of a lot more fun to hang on until the redline in the Beezer!

I raced a remapped MK1 vRS @ Pod and I'd say it was at most 2 tenths of a second slower than my car if it was standard. (Basing that on my standard run @ GTi International last year - I know it's hard to compare but that's the best I could do lol)

Which car are you talking about? :)

Well my mate yesterday bought a 54 plate mini cooper S the supercharged model of course running 167bhp. Mines is running 166bhp with 277lbs/ft of torque. We were both 2 man up and he couldn't get passed me. He asked what power i was running as was very surprised

fabia II vRS

Last week against a Type R I went from 40mph up till 90mph, I was ahead then it just left me standing however that is in an unmapped vRS with 145bhp, with a good map i reckon I would have made triple figures but ultimately it would still paste me. End of the day its a group 9 car vs. a group 17, if you want to keep up with something like a Type R get something closer to its performance figures like a GTI but I'm sure a mapped vRS will still surprise quite a few hot hatch owners.

no question about it a 231 RX8 is quicker than a mapped vrs,

corsa vxr arctic (use to drive) is much quicker too,

I don't find the vrs that quick off the start, I just enjoy overtaking / motorway driving in it,

Rich

I started to pull in a interga type r the other night at the top of fourth gear into fifth then I decided I'd had enough. No bs! I could hear the thing screaming too so it wasn't like he was going easy. I was very suprised, we were neck and neck from 40ish upwards then I started to pull on him.

Something's not right then, the Teg should have wiped the floor with you!

Yeah a lot of crazy stuff going on here :o

Ive had a mapped fabia, its good for mpg and thats about it, only hot hatch i kinda beat was a c2 vts, everything else you can hold on until 4th but then you get heat soaked

I know what you mean so did I lol

Just for sh*ts and giggles, did a quick comparison of power/weight ratios and assuming a remapped Fabia VRS is about 170bhp and 1315kg that puts it in the same ballpark as:

Honda Civic VTi (EK9) - 124 bhp/tonne

Ford Fiesta ST (Mk5) - 126 bhp/tonne

Skoda Fabia VRS (remapped) - 129 bhp/tonne

Abarth 500 - 130bhp/tonne

I've sat on the arse of a DC2 and he was gunning it.... That distinctive sound of a B18C and buddy club combo dropping gears <3

/\ how did you fare on the first bend??

That's interesting, fiesta st isn't even close in the real world, they hang to 60-70 then they drop off big time, close friend has one with some

Mods done and I easily beat him :) I wish the fab was a bit lighter! :( lol

They do sound amazing, still can't beat the sound of a RS focus mk2 with full milltek, literally no better sound in the world lol

No bends involved haha I'm not that stupid! I wouldnt have wasted my time, it would be like an air balloon racing a jet.

Good information here.

The C2 vts, Fiesta ST sort of figures isnt bad for a diesel. Is the heatsoak that bad on a standard remapped? how many runs does it take or is it pretty much after a couple of seconds?

Sounds like another car with "possible issues" tbh, my mrs has a fiesta st (stock) and it sits with a couple of mates mapped fabia's without problems.

I can see that, depends if it the weaker non mivec V6 they are pretty weak my mate used to have one, the MIVEC was miles better i believe.
