What is a remapped VRS as quick as

Featured Replies

The reason I say what I do is because the 0-60mph and quarter mile times for the Focus RS with around 300bhp are almost exactly the same as my car.

And I'm running 40-50bhp less, but more torque.

Although the Focus RS is a fat old beast and is 100kg more.

But that's still only around 7% heavier with 20% more bhp.

With the same driver?

50bhp more in a 100kg heavier car with a driver with less skill/slower reaction at the lights will level the field pretty easily I reckon. You need a fair bit more power/tonne to pull a decent lead in a straight line, which is why I doubt the Fiesta ST comments.

My girlfriend has a Fiesta ST, and while it wasn't as quick as my hybrid Fabia, it is no slouch, and whether I could 'pull away' from it in a straight line when all other factors are equal I don't know (plus I've sold the Fabia now so never will...).

No, motor test figures for the Focus RS.

When I actually ran next to one at Santa Pod I gave it a good pasting.

I think his driving was a bit off, which is why I quote test times against my logged times as they bound to be more accurate.

I was about three to four car lengths in front on the day.

Once I got into third and had the surge of torque I just pulled out a lead.

The Focus RS seems to book about 13.77 tops non-modified.

My best on the same day as the pic above was 13.609.

Just for comparison, I used to run my old Fabia Vrs a lot at Santa Pod. Standard the best time I got was 16.01 secs. With a tuning box on that came down to 15.7 secs.

Most hot hatches(Clio 172/182, Fiesta ST et al) would have a hard time beating me, but their cars were faster, just that that they weren't being pedalled quite as brilliantly. I could launch very well, but above 60 they would start clawing back at me, Not by much, but they were gaining consistently.

The Fabia was quick in day to day driving simply because it had the torque to accelerate at will, pretty much whatever the gear. But ultimately on the drag strip, I could see that it wasn't that fast.

p.s. 16secs on the 1/4 mile equates to about 0-60 in 7.5secs give or take a tenth or two...

Pointless arguing, the difference between the various "matches" are so close it's all down to the drivers abilities IMO. Less than a second is next to nothing really.

I agree, my point was that despite having less bhp per tonne you can keep up with more torque. :)

It's not just about bhp.

0.16 seconds is nothing when you consider the subjectivity of driver capabilities, tyre choice, and even driver weight though. Even with 50bhp more, the RS is a heavier car, so your lead proabaly isn't too unrealistic. Swap drivers though and I reckon the results would have been the other way around...

Only briefly though. You will lose in the long run, or why else would most race performance engined be high powered, rather than lower power higher torque.

Yep, as we talked about earlier up the thread.

And as I said, within legal limits. Which is where I spend most time driving. :)

If "briefly" is up to 90-100mph that suits me fine.

I've no doubt that at 120mph the RS would accelerate faster, depsite similar 0-60 and quarter mile times which only shows terminal speed of 105mph.

This is why I like the Fabia VRS. It gives it's best within the speed limit. Then it starts to tail off.

You don't have to drive everywhere at license losing speeds to have fun.

Maybe I should try f1

Quite difficult to get into tho lol

Its not as fast as a remapped Ibiza with the same engine :p

It is yes, dont quote me but IIRC 1205KG's?

I am currently on page 7 of your car thread matey, im getting there! Will reply on that, but needless to say. Very lovely, and the GTR isnt bad either... :D

I think the VRS SE is around 1315kg. But I've always tried to keep it standard inside and see how far you could push.

Have to admit, I have toyed with the idea of just stripping the interior out for a Santa Pod day. Just to see the difference.

It is a fairly heavy little car.

No idea what all the seats out other than the driver and the spare rim out would come to.

But it would would certainly be closer to yours than it is now! :D

But alas, I have more than just the back seats out of mine sir!

So out of interest, what kind of stripping have you done to shed weight?

You just have to lie your rear seats flat, that'll save some weight

as if this thread is still going on and being disputed!!! :o

Nothing behind the drivers seats, no pillars, airbags (minus at the time the steering wheel and front seats) no dash, just the clocks really. Aircon bits out the cockpit are gone.

Since, the air con bits inside the engine bay have been stripped to save weight and reduce power loss (albiet slightly) I have a very nice 5KG battery which im hoping is enough to start the car which is going behind the passenger seat.

I'd guess I have saved a far wack, maybe 50-60KG's.

The add the bigger brakes front and rear, LSD, ARBs etc and its all back again! But of course still lighter than the car without all that in.

I had an Astra van drive up my arse the other night so I put my foot down to "teach him a lesson" then he just flew past me. God knows what was under the bonnet but it certainly put me in my place lol

where abouts was this? a friend of mine put a z20let in a van just for a small project while work was slow in the garage. he's sold it on now but if its north east its more than likely his old motor

Sounds mental! Lol any photos mate?

Think I have a few some where. Should be getting some more over the next couple of months as should be getting all the interior sprayed black as soon as the garage gets in some work for a black car, so not sure which black as of yet :p

Basically all I have are the two front seats and steering wheel with the clocks on the top basically.

Is there any where none freedom members can post up their car/s esp none Fabia versions!

Pay for freedom. ;)

Or respectfully not :)

Any benefit it has for people is great, but it wouldnt benefit me.

Stick a thread up in the fabia project section, it's the same thing really isn't it. I like seeing how little of your car is actually attached to the shell lol.

And what is attached is via blue tac and tie wraps :D

Linkie? Im lazzzzyyyy
