What is a remapped VRS as quick as

Featured Replies

They are really nippy little cars! Certainly a lot faster than my old mapped focus TDCI sport!

I out ran a Mini Cooper S then he caught back up with me at higher speeds. There is only so much you can go before your big bucket of balls run out.

I assume you mean civic type r? I'm not gonna get into a massive argument here, but I've driven several ek9s ep3s and fn2s and how you can say a mapped fabia is nowhere near as fast is beyond me. My fab is comfortable as quick. I have a friend with a t sport corolla (quicker than a type r) and its modified with approx 210-220 and my fabia still pulls on it. Strange world. There's so many cars that should and should not be faster than others but what I've found in the real world is to be completely different. And these are all situations where both drivers are going for it. I'm so proud of my little fab :)

I like the Fabia, don't get me wrong. Otherwise I wouldn't own one. And off the line, it is pretty quick. My Civic wasn't a Type R- it was a 2.0 Type S with 138bhp/tonne (dyno proven, not pub bhp). It was definitely faster, and it wasn't a desperately quick car by any stretch.

Everyone seems to forget that the Fabia is a fat hatch, with a cruising gearbox on many of them. It is comfortable and refined, but it weighs a lot. They typically come in on the scales at 1320kg or so. The Civic was 1260kg with more power (albeit less torque). The gearing was better stacked than the Fabia for sprinting and cross country. It had a much more fluid, well-sorted chassis. The brakes were insanely good. Overall, it stacked up as a much better performer. And the Corolla T-Sport has perhaps one of the worst combos of engine & gearbox, ever. Long ratios on an engine with power delivery more peaky than Mt Everest & less torque than a sewing machine. They still get cop now, Top Gear mag had them in their 5 worst cars of the 2000s. Evo mag put them in their worst hot hatches list. Having driven one too, I can happily say I've never been more bored in a car, including sleeping in a work van.

And Oli- yes, I'm in the owners club now! Toying with keeping it as economical runaround or selling it to clear some finances...

Last night I took my ladies cousin for a spin in my remapped vrs since I've only ad the car a week last night I opened it up big time . I was at traffic lights they turned green so I put my foot down I looked in my mirror to see a Audi a3 sport behind me as I got my foot down he stayed close behind til I hit 70mph then he started to go in the distance slowly at this time I thought oh yes nailed . My turning came up and I turned off to see the Audi a3 go past my exit , I was suprised I nailed one of them and I didn't realise it was a Audi til I turned off. But man that put a smile on my faceand surprising how good theses skoda cars are

Have you considered that he was accelerating with you up to 70mph, but then didn't want to go any faster?

In a lot of cases it's not the car, it's the driver and how much risk they want to take.

High speed on unsuitable roads (not saying it's that in this case) or driving over the speed limit is not comparing the performance of cars, it's drivers and how much risk they are happy with at that time.

Following the logic from the quoted post I left behind an Audi S5 in my Citigo yesterday... does that make it faster?

Or was it just because he didn't want to drive as fast as me?

Yes! Not many people see it that way! I once got dicked on by a 1.2 corsa in my fabia but I wasn't willing to push my car hard on those roads just to teach some young lad a lesson!

If you're in the right gear I've always thought

its a great overtaking car. Gets the overtake over

and done with swiftly and safely and with reasonable ease.

That's why I like it myself.

On my route home I pass through a 50mph which then goes to a 70mph, at the end of the 50mph I drop in to 4th and open it up.... Well to 70mph anyway, the torque in that gear at that speed is just perfect for me.

I then slow down to 60mph for economy :p

I've got a bright blue Octavia vRS and people try to race me all the time. I don't bother racing back, it's not the reason why I bought it and the roads aren't race tracks. I get people flying past me in 1.2 corsas, fiestas and i20s, does that mean they are faster? No, I just don't want to drive like a plank all the time. Don't get me wrong, I open it up as much as everyone else, just do it sensibly. All these, I beat a Leon Cupra and I beat a this that and the other stories make me laugh, most of the time they probably couldn't be bothered to race on a public road.

nevermind lol,

I love doing that sort of thing.

It's in these circumstances that these engines really shine and can leave a lot of other cars looking a bit red faced. It's the big lump of torque that get these cars moving like they do.

My favourite is Garrowby hill in 4th gear (2km long 17% gradient). Nobody can keep up with me on that hill! :giggle:

No chance if it was driven correctly. I have owned one and they are rapid cars.

It will however stick with an R32 (both mk4 and 5) up to about 90 which is enough for the huge comedy value of it.

I think you'll find a mkI Fabia VRS will whizz right past the Millenium Falcon, once appropriately modified. :)

Yours looks like it would have from the videos I've seen!

Here we go.

Poor type R's always getting picked up.

Is this thread still going?

My remapped VRS did the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.

When my vrs was standard I was just in front of a BMW 330D coupe off the lights

You must not have been driving it right then. Should have smoked him

My hybrid fabia struggled against a 330d!!

330d was still quicker
